So Kendrys Morales signed today.... with the Twins. All I can muster in my head about the whole situation is "What in the actual fuck?"
I honestly didn't expect him back after reports that we had tried a few times with him and the length of time he was out, obviously pushing passed the compensatory pick deadline. However, I really thought he was holding out to get an offer from an actual competitor so he could go try to win a ring.
Also, all reports from last year say he was really happy here and enjoyed his time as a Mariner a lot. At one time last year he was offered something like a 3year, 30 Million dollar contract from Seattle that he turned down. Now he holds out half the season just to sign with the fucking Twins?!
I just don't get it at all. Nothing about this makes any damn sense unless you're Morales and you don't care about a shit load more money than you're getting.

Maybe he's got a hot girlfriend in Minnesota? I honestly can't think of any other explanation as he could've gone to a contender, or at least a hitters stadium to boost his stats for free agency.

Weren't the Yankees interested in him? He could've gone to New York, played in a hitters stadium for a contender and played for a team that is notorious for rewarding their players with generous contracts.

SMH because I don't get it either. Not sure, but never heard that Minny was a big Latin community either which some players look for.

Without looking at the statistics, I'd have to imagine that New York and Texas have larger Latino communities.

Twins look like they might lose today and go 4 games under .500

Watch they end up trading Morales at the trade deadline

Smart move if they do because they lose him for nothing other wise.

That was what I speculated when they signed him. Perhaps they signed him just with the intention of flipping him for prospects at the deadline. Wouldn't be a bad tactic, honestly.

It could backfire on them if he has to spend time in the minors to get his timing back and then doesn't come out of the gate hot once he gets up to Minnesota. I just can't see them spending that kind of money on a guy that they may only have for about a month in the hopes that, while they have him, he hits well enough to get them decent prospects in a trade. I think they end up keeping him for the rest of the season or, if they do trade him, it won't be until after the no-waiver deadline has passed.

He can't go to the minors because he is out of options they said. He will have to get his timing down in BP this week while on the roster.

So far Kendrys is 6-12 with 3 doubles and 3 rbis. I mean of course right.

I was juszt going to comment on that. Wouldn't it fitting and typical if the Mariners and Twins, somehow, miraculously, were the two wild cards in the AL and Morales knocked the Mariners out of the playoffss with a homerun in the 9th inning?

If what has been reported in terms of the multiple offers given to Morales by the M's are true, then he had zero interest in coming to Seattle so it's kind of a moot point. I mean, a three year $30 million or a one year qualifying at $14+ should have been enough to land someone of his caliber. As far as meeting in the playoffs......HELL YEAH I would take that match up and a loss in that manner! I just want to get there at this point, shit, they could sweep us for all I care. Baby steps.

I don't think it had anything to do with Morales not wanting to come back here. I think he just didn't want to come back at the money offered. With the teams on the verge of getting new TV revenue money in their pockets, Morales gambled that he could get a better deal. I thought he would get a better deal also. Turned out to be a bad decision on his part but I can certainly understand why he made it at the time.

What's unknown is whether or not an official offer was made at any point after the qualifying offer was rejected. Maybe there was and it was turned down or maybe the M's got fed up and moved on. Still hard for me to make a firm assumption unless more information comes out. If I had to guess though it seems like he didn't want to be here based on the deal he took.

The three for $30 seemed like a hearsay report, but the qualifying offer of $14+ that was rejected did actually happen. That could be him, but it could also have been a Boras plan gone wrong. Either way, he isn't here and hopefully when Minnesota falls off by the trade deadline we could trade for him ;-)

Do you mean the most recent one, or the one they offered before last season was even over?

The Mariners have been reported to be tapped out of money, yet sources say they made a run at old friend Kendrys Morales.
Word is they first proposed a two-year idea before offering a modest one-year number (believed to be close to $5 million) designed to fit Morales' goal to hit the free-agent market again next year before he shocked folks by signing with the Twins for significantly more.
