After visiting the Redskins earlier this week, Josh Johnson visited the 49ers today and signed a two-year deal this evening.

Has to be - no way we let go of Colin this soon. What's interesting is that all three (Smith, Kaepernick and now Johnson) will all be competing for the starting position. This exhibition season will not be meaningless for 49er WR's & QB's. Very interesting move.

I just hope signing Moss and Manningham will get Crabtree motivated for training camp.

solid signing. good to have two athletic qb's who can compete for the back up job. harbaugh coached johnson, so he knows better than anyone whether johnson is worth bringing onboard.

should make for an interesting camp and preseason for the QBs. It'll be interesting to see who makes it out of Smith, CK, Tolzien and Johnson.

This is a bit of a curious move, as QB wasn't really a huge need. I hope this doesn't mean they aren't comfortable with the development of CK and Tolzien.

Don't mind the signing at all. Bring competition and lights a fire under everyone's asses. Plus he knows the offense already.

You know more than harbaugh about qbs?[/QUOTE

what has josh johnson done in the NFL? Nothing Her career stats are awful 5 tds 10 ints with a qb rating 57.7....would u sign him?

harbaugh coached him in college and has insider knowledge of what he's capable of. i don't see any reason why he can't be a good back up at the very least.

I just hope signing Moss and Manningham will get Crabtree motivated for training camp.

You would think it should, but Crabtree has often proven he can be quite delusional. He may very well believe these moves are intended only to support him instead of replace him. The good thing is, if he doesn't become motivated we shouldn't miss a beat.
