John Mara is going on about how he's still a great guy and husband and father, and said we shouldn't judge until we know the extend to which he assaulted her.

This guy's priorities are all kind of fucked up.
Brown's or Mara's?

Maybe, maybe not, but what he did wasn't exactly a secret and following the Rice case the NFL imposed a strict No-Tolerance policy but gave Brown and the Giants lots of Tolerance.
Jerry Jones received lots of tolerance from the commish when he signed Greg Hardy to a contract.

Then why should Brown receive a lifetime ban?

I didn't say that. I said I doubt he plays again in the NFL.

I don't think a team signs him this year, doubt they do next year either. He'll likely be starting off with a 5 game suspension so you'd have to be signing him knowing you will be paying him for that AND signing another kicker to start your season.

And while I don't think he should receive a lifetime ban, I think there are lots of people who do that would make noise about signing him, especially if it is this year or next.

Throw in that I think the NFL will take another look at kickoffs to increase the reward on touchbacks (player safety reasons) and he was 3rd to last in the NFL there in the past season.

So I doubt he ever plays in an NFL game again. Age, leg strength, looming suspension and public/media response would be the key reasons.

The guy gets paid $2MM a year to kick a ball 10 times a week. It's not too much to ask that he not beat his wife in return.

Now he's saying he never hit her, the abuse was in other forms. Can't make this stuff up

Good. The open question remains why they and the NFL have to be shamed into doing the right thing when it comes to players who abuse women.

sadly that is what it has to come to in order for anything to happen

I'm not condoning abuse but I'm a little tired of all this shit. If an offense doesn't land a player in jail, then why shouldn't he be able to work?
This I agree with, my issue is with the NFL setting the 6 game suspension policy, then turno around and give Brown 1 game. IMO per NFL rules it should have been NO games or SIX.
