This is ridiculous....if it wasn't for Alex Smith, Davis would be a top-5 tackle. Davis would never give up a single sack if Smith would just get rid of the ball within .75 seconds for a change. Blah blah blah blah......

pashos in the top 10? didn't know he turned it around

Have to agree that Backus is not very good.

While Staley isn't a bad LT, and I don't know anyone who thinks he is, I still think it would be wise to keep an eye out for an upgrade there. He's a "good enough" at LT, but he'd make a GREAT RT. And I think Davis could be a great RG. Dude can run block.

You have been saying this for a long time, Sickness. I find this idea quite intriguing because, as you say, the dude can run block. I'm not sure we shouldn't entertain this idea.

For the record I haven't given up ALL hope Davis can be an above average RT. It's getting close for me though.

If memory serves I think He's getting beat by some pretty badass pass rushers like Jason Babin, Terrell Suggs (I think he came over from the left side a coupel times???) didn't JPP beat him for a sack? He may need to lose a little weight; he's more than good enough at run blocking (like Rachal who needs to move to C), he just doesn't have the lateral quickness...

I saw this when he was in college. He hopped around in the back field rather than moving smoothly like Matt Kalil does. He never looked comfortable moving backwards / sideways with a low center of gravity. That's why I think he might need to lose a lottle weight. Lose a tiny bit in the running game, but buy the QB a little extra time. It would be a good pay off if it worked.

People aren't moving when he makes the line calls. It doens't take a genius to learn how to do that...

The Niners have Kilgore looming; I didn't say hand the starting job to Rachal; but Rachal can push some sucka's off the line. In the age of the 3-4 and NTs like Vince Wilfork (sigh), Casey Hampton, etc that's a big deal. His ONLY problem has been pass protection; and a C doens't usually go one on one with good pass rushers on passing downs.

Rachal
is a MUST re-sign IMO because he can be had for so cheap.

Let's be real; Rachal didn't play any worse than Snyder used to play at OG. Snyder got better, but he's still pretty bad.

Sick, the center has to be heady. Rachal is the furthest thing from that. He would be a disaster at C.

How do you know? He's never been tried at C. Let's not make Rachal out to be a moron. He just gets beat a lot by pass rushers. The guy who's going to face the least amount of good pass rushers one on one on the entire OL is the C.

In the Running game, however, the C is usually going to take on a big ole' NT against a 3-4 almost every play. Nobody knows that Rachal would be a "disaster" at C. If that's true Rachal should be out of the league because he's not a very good RG. But he's not going to be out of the league. I say re-sign him, and when training camp starts let him compete for the C jorb.

didn't we just draft two more offensive linemen? wasn't Kilgore considered a POSSIBLE C?

we might as well let Rachal compete at C, cause at RG he's likely gone? he's had his chances and hasn't gotten consistent, he'll need to clearly beat out these young guys and possibly other FA's.

yeah, they'll TRY to upgrade RG and if so, Snyder returns to the back-up role. in this situation where would Rachal fit? gone right?
