The Cal Ripken Jr hate is worse than Elway.

I don't know about that...Elway is pretty hated but for good reason. At least Cal has longevity

I guess that's what I was implying in that it's less deserved.

I get it in this because players are hancuffed by teammates but still. Wagner/Vaughan/Appling all can't be taken and still.

Yeah, because Elway's career was very short.

Of course not but Ripken was the Iron Man. That's his thing...if it wasn't for that he wouldn't be mentioned so high on all-time lists imo. I think Ripken is a little overrated but not as much as some guys suggest

There are plenty of people that think Elway is vastly overrated

I think the problem with Ripken is he put the streak ahead of his team which turns some people like myself away, he was a real good baseball player but the problem in our drafts is there are a lot of shortstops more valuable because of steals and defense. Look at his 162 it's not overly impressive

I understand the sentiment and I do believe his numbers would be better if he rested.

But he was a good fielder. His zone runs are very good.

Speed is also overrated in these because your 500 stolen base leadoff man would never attempt in front of the 3 400+ HR hitters he hits infront of.

Baserunning is still valuable sure going first to third or first to home but stolen bases would be much less prevelent if these teams were to play a small season.

It's very easy to go up from the bottom haha.

I mean if you really built your team around it High Contact/Average guys and speed it would matter. Going first to third on a single is a very valuable school and I am glad they are starting to quanitfy it more and look ar wRC+ instead of OPS+ to see. Also gotta remember that a bunch of these teams have great defensive catchers to boot and that's gonna push SB down even more.

Henderson - 219th in OPS+ at 127
154th in wRC+ with 132

You have to be basically 80% success in stolen bases in the long run for it to be valuable. Obviously any single one could be valuable. But overall and in the long run. And since 80% is a prettt high success rate its its why stolen bases are so down in the modern game.

Defense as a whole for baseball gets zero love

I took Cal and Beltre my first draft ever on here (along with Pudge) thinking that played

Quickly learned not the case lol

So with that Beltre for sure. Dude should be a first few ballots HOF based on being one of the best defensive third basemen ever and his power

If he was a Yankee or Red Sox he'd be near Jeter levels imo
