They needed a playmaker receiver. Extremely pricey for what he does. I assume Sea will just spread him out as a WR 99% of the time & use a blocking TE when running the ball.

The Saints had to do something, they were still way over the cap. At least they got something of value for a player instead of just cutting one.

Love picking up JG, but holy shit. Losing the best member of a shaky Oline? :L Better not be done with the moves on offense. Carp leaving and now unger sent to the south.

Interesting!!! JS' batting avg on 4th round picks is like .800 opposed to a .300 on first rounders. So I don't mind the pick swap as much.

Ungers an all pro...when healthy......which has been few and far between....

Graham is a game changer for this offense.

my first reaction as well, but Unger is always injured and Bailey played pretty good at center with Unger out last season.

How is that possible?

Sorry, deleted it to get more info to post exact numbers, but since you asked:

Jimmy Graham will be paid $2.9 million in salary (which Seattle pays) while creating $9 million in dead money for New Orleans.

Max Unger will be paid $4.5 million in salary (which NO pays) while creating $2.2 million in dead money.

At this point, Seattle is $500,000 ahead hit (Unger's dead money, plus Graham's salary, minus Ungers cap number; $5.6 million)

Throw in Seattle's 1st rounder ($1.3 million) and change it to NO's 4th rounder ($550,000) and the total change to the Seahawks cap goes from $6.9 million (Unger + 1st rounder) to $5.65 million.

Sounds to good to be true. Now I really like this trade.

Take all that back, since Graham is owed $5 million in roster bonus that Seattle pays due to the trade happening before the 3rd day of the league year.

We survived without Unger this year, and dealt with other offensive line injuries through out the year. Carpenter has been a big turd his whole career. I don't love the deal

Per Field Gulls,

With Unger's $4.5M cap hit heading to the Saints, net add for Jimmy Graham in 2015 is $3.5M against the cap (I believe)

So add in cutting Zach Miller and there isn't an appreciable cap increase, but it's not a decrease. I think Graham has a roster bonus due in a few days, which is why it's not just the salary.

4ths are usually when the best C in the class fall into. Maybe they have their eye on one?
