When you don't change your style of play, you are doing it intentionally knowing you are going high. That's intent right there. Prove otherwise.

If he didn't want to do it, he wouldn't. It's a simple as that. It's not like he just found out about these rules.

Husker fan...Suh's dirty, too. Get over it. The NFL is loaded with guys who will play like this. Given the chance, I think most people would take SUH on their team in a heartbeat (money not withstanding). That still doesn't mean what Suh did or Harrison did last night doesn't deserve a suspension. They both have repeated patterns of these kinds of issues. That is a fact. If it weren't, then they wouldn't be having these issues, now would they?

You might be able to defend every flag/fine/hit he's ever made, but that is because you are delusional. He's got guys all over the NFL getting on him for his tactics, he knew he was doing things wrong and that is why he requested a meeting with RG himself rather than wait for the call from the commish. Too bad he didn't learn anything, or maybe he wouldn't be suspended right now.

I think he's actually made an effort to improve his style of play... he's just not that smart. He's done some dumb things in the past that have actually hurt his team with 15 yard penalties, in the playoffs even, if I remember correctly.

Mccoy was out of the pocket running to the line of scrimmage and he quickly flipped the ball. He was a runner for all but a half second. Harrison did not tee him up. If it were a running back, it would have been clean. It violated the letter of the rule but it was incidental.

this....if mccoy was wearing a higher number then no penalty

furthermore...james harrison (and consequently most steeler fans) has a gripe with the new rules because he was singled out and punished for the rules for things he did BEFORE the rule was written

its like if they lower the speed limit on a particular stretch of road and send everyone a ticket that drove on it the week prior

goodell is the "piece of shit" if you ask me...he just needs to let the game be what it is

He released it a split second before he was hit. He was running with the ball tucked like he was going to run. It was helmet to helmet for sure, but not as bad as some people are making out to be.

If he gets suspended because of his history, I am fine with that. But that hit itself is not nearly as bad as some of the ones that I have seen DBs do (Mayweather, Robinson, Clark)

If he tucked and was running like a running back, and Harrison saw this, BUT....

all of a sudden, McCoy has time to find his receiver, and hoist the ball to a throwing position, and release the ball ..then Harrison had time to lay up on the "launch" which is exactly what it looks like in that video. Unless that video was doctored and of course it is just meant to flame the Steelers impeccable reputation.

its not like he set up, planted and launched a downfield bomb....he flicked to a dude five yards west of him on the sideline

Sure, hit McCoy after the release, but stick your arms out (hit him in the chest) and shove his ass backwards. Do not need to launch your body head first HIGH. Maybe the helmet to helmet was an accident, but there would not be "accidents" if you followed teh proper rules to tackling, instead of the rule on how to "kill a man".

And I have seen a 3rd baseman grab a ball traveling at 100+ mph short hopping him and him make a diving catch in all of a split second. You telling me James Harrison is so f'n fast that he can't even slightly alter his path once seeign the ball is no longer in McCoys hand? Come the F on.

If James Harrison kept his head up and watched the upper half of the player instead of the lower half, he would have much more field awareness when approaching a player to tackle. Plus, once again, LAUNCH your body at a guys waist.

That is the one part that does not move as much. The waist is the center of gravity, you can moves arms, legs, duck, jump, etc, but that waist is staying in the center of it all and not really going anywhere. Launch yourself at a guys hips/waist, and you will not have issues like this, and you will present more fundamentally sound tackling anyways.

Harrison is a freaking thug on a football field.

It has to do with the "defensive-less posture" of McCoy at the time.

McCoy could do nothing to preserve his health in that situation, Harrison had the control, he just wasn't practicing good habits. Now, I'm sure he wasn't thinking "Imma be takin' that white boy out", but he still will receive some form of behavior modification from the NFL and rightly so, otherwise he will continue to revert to bad habits. Also, the NFL didn't single him out in revising the rules, he was simply taking advantage of the loose rules whereas other players had more common sense. It became so problematic that the rule had to be updated and enforced. It doesn't help his case when he behaves like a 'roid raging animal that won't listen to reason.

Harrison KNOWS he's a QB. He should KNOW that he can't just launch himself into his head. He was hit nearly 2 yards behind the LOS. I get it. He was out of the pocket. He was looking like he was going to run. I get all that, but NONE of that changes the fact that, again, Harrison launched himself at McCoy's head. That is the risk you run (McCoy throwing the ball at the last second) when you do that type of stuff. You play with fire you get burned.

Whether or not we agree with the "letter" of the law is not what is up for debate. It is pretty black or white. Did Harrison violate the rule? Yes. Has he had a history of violating these rules (head shots/illegal hits)? Yes. You can bitch an moan all you want about the rules, but it seems like most of the other NFL players have adapted. If Harrison doesn't adapt, that's fine by me. But when he gets suspended, he shouldn't be shocked.

It's like speeding. You get pulled over. Whether you were going 6 over the limit or 20 over the limit you DESERVE a ticket. People love to create this "gray" area in life when so much is just black and white. They create the gray because they KNOW they are wrong and want to weasel their way out. Just sack up and take what's coming to you. I'm not saying Harrison HAS to change his style, but he WILL have to accept the punishment(s) that follow if he doesn't.

i'm really starting to think that the real culprit in all of these new rules is slo-mo replay

in real time its not that bad...its when they slow it down that it looks bad

and as far as "launching"...at the point of contact his feet were on the ground he didn't fall to the ground until after the impact

that's why james harrison doesn't play 3rd base.....are you really trying to make an arguement based on the premise that all pro athletes should have the same skillset?
