All that I can say to that is no one is perfect, Christian or otherwise!! Christians mess up and sin all of the time!! The difference is, Christians know we sin and fall short of God, but we ask for and receive forgiveness!!

Please don't take this the wrong way, but how many killers find religion only after being caught and sentenced to death row?

You talk about forgiveness for sins in one sentence, but then ramble on and for lack of a better word condemn a basketball player for 3 years running because you dont like the way he left his previous basketball team?

Actions speak louder then words every time , and asking for forgiveness after committing a horrific act (not implying you committed one), doesn't right the wrong. It only allows that person to justify feeling better about themselves.

No worries, I understand exactly what you mean. My answer is, I have no idea and I also have no idea how many of them legitimately find religion and how many do so because they want a lighter sentence or need to impress a parole board. That is for God to determine.

Which has nothing to do with his salvation or who he is as a person!! I don't like the way he left his previous team, I don't like how disrespectful he and his teammates were towards the game and towards pretty much everyone for the entire year following "The Decision"!! Heck, you can even add that he plays for the wrong darn team (the reason I didn't like Bird or MJ). Being a Christian does not mean I have to like everyone or think that everything they do is okay!! I can look at his behavior and determine whether or not I like his behavior and whether or not I like him as a player. What I am not supposed to do is try to judge his salvation, that is God's domain and in my opinion, what He means when He tells us not to judge others.

It depends on the sincerity of the asking for forgiveness and the individuals behavior afterwards. For example, if I were to steal money from someone and ask for forgiveness, but not return that money (if possible) and then continue stealing. I'd imagine that God would not find much sincerity in my asking for forgiveness.

However, if I asked for forgiveness, returned the money (if possible), faced the music for my behavior and didn't do it again, I imagine that God would find a considerable amount of sincerity in that. God knows our hearts and it is ultimately He who determines the sincerity.

At the end of the day, I am sure that there are people who use religion as a means to feel better about themselves and/or make themselves look better than they are. It is not up to me to make that determination and since God hasn't asked for my help, I'm pretty sure He has it covered.

I have always believed that those who are blessed enough to get into Heaven are likely to be as surprised by who isn't there as they are by who is!!

I am one who does not believe that weed is a sin (and I have the medical cannabis card to prove it. LOL!!). While I did not find your posting of that picture particularly offensive, what did bother me and continues to bother me is your acting as if no one else should be offended simply because you don't find it offensive.

I was taught that before I do or say something, I should consider how another may feel about it. For example, you have stated on here that you are Jewish. If I were to come across a picture that depicted a Jewish person in a way that someone who is Jewish may be offended, I wouldn't post it even if I didn't find it offensive simply because it may offend you or another Jewish person. It's a little thing called "common courtesy" and "respect for others" that seem to be in rather short supply in our society these days!!

I cannot honestly say that I would ever forgive him. I also cannot honestly say that I wouldn't!! I've never been in that situation, so I don't know.

I do feel that I would be much more likely to never forgive them however. Ultimately, when it comes to salvation, it is not up to me, it is up to God!!

Yes, I know that as a Christian, I am supposed to forgive them, but I am human and therefore fallible. I would try to forgive him because I know that it is what God would want me to do, but I cannot sit here and tell you with any degree of honesty that I know for certain that I could forgive him.

What I have not seen you do, which is the simplest of acts, is apologize to anyone who may have been offended. The fact that you have deflected, defended and attempted to rationalize the picture is how you have acted as if no one else should be offended.

However, it is entirely possible to disagree, and have respectful dialogue about it and even some good natured trash talk without crossing lines. Religion, is a line that, in my opinion, should never be crossed. It is far too personal and important to some people.

Example: I do not know how important your faith as a Jewish person is to you, but while I will talk trash about your Heat all day long, I would never intentionally say anything disrespectful or offensive about Judaism or Jewish people.

I don't remember seeing the picture. If I did and it was posted as a direct offense to you, it would not have sat well with me. Was it posted after you posted the Jesus picture? If so, perhaps it was to make a point re: offensive pictures. It's not how I would have chosen to make a point. I do a lot of my posting from work, so I miss pages from time to time when I get busy!!

Me clarifying why I posted it is nothing more then just that. It is your choice to take it for what it's worth or to make it into what you feel it was. Either way, I never implied that anyone was wrong to be offended if they felt it was offensive. That's what you accused me of.

I think it's great that you try to be sensitive to all other posters. I dont personally know any other posters here, so I have no idea who will or might be offended by what. Now, since this has happened and a few of you took issue with it, I feel it would be inappropriate if I were to make some type of religious post towards you just to enrage you. That's the difference IMO. For instance, you can see that CL has huge issues with the picture. Nobody has ever tried to slander me or make it more personal then he has. Despite that, have I ever tried to use race or religion against him in an effort to piss him off? There are some lines I won't cross regardless if its internet or not. That alone should prove that my intention was exactly what I said it was. A picture of what a perceived Jesus looks like wearing a weed shirt is exactly what? How is that personal against anyone? Many people feel Jesus smoked week (I learned today). If that's the case, then the picture becomes appropriate as well as funny (as far as this thread goes) IMO.
