In Mayfields case it was April 23, 2021. That's the day the Browns picked up Mayfields option....and the real June 1st date was earlier in May. lol.
I'm not familiar with him because you claimed he played well in 2017 and 2019 when he played, at best, OK in those seasons? do you think the Browns can do with just OK at QB this year if we need a replacement for watson?
Because, you said for a few games but not a long period of time. You clearly aren't familiar with him.
He played well......not just okay....LOL.I'm not familiar with him because you claimed he played well in 2017 and 2019 when he played, at best, OK in those seasons? do you think the Browns can do with just OK at QB this year if we need a replacement for watson?
Slap yourself harder next time, maybe?
If you simply stack him up against every QB that season you are correct.....but then when you figure he was a rookie joining an 0-16 team with an awful coach AND an OC sabotaging the coach to get him fired? Still led the team to 7 wins (after none the previous year as mentioned) and set at the time a rookie TD record.Bar is really set low, if his best season being QB 18, is considered damn good.
I consider very few on that list a bust. Quinn, Weeden and Manziel. Considering where most of the others were picked (if they were picked) hard to call them busts. He's in the same category as many of the QBs on the infamous QB jersey, do you consider those QBs busts?

while I mostly agree with that last comment I'd say he overcame bad coaching in 2018 (at least by the first HC and OC).not arguing.
2018 he was an unknown, but still made rookie mistakes. I would be happy with his rookie year if on my team.
2020 is the year I talk about if trying to figure out his skill level.
He was known by DCs, but had good coaching for once & was healthy that year. 3-1 ratio for TDs/INTs
Some great Qbs can overcome bad coaching, but I dont see Baker in that category.
If he cannot be his 2020 self again AND be more consistent I'd say disappointment is definitely fair. I guess as THE #1 pick bust might be but think with players like Leaf, Russell, Smith, shuler, etc. there should be a better word to describe him (or others like him) than the same one that describes those guys.No I don't need to compare him to the all time busts in the NFL to call him a bust. If you want we can use a different word maybe failure is a better word or disappointment or underachiever.
He played well in 2017 and 2019? He was 28th in QBR in 2017 and 21st in 2019. Baker was 14th and 28th in these 2 seasons. Did he play well, too?He played well......not just okay....LOL.
Are you saying Cleveland sends Mayfield and pay 9M of his contract for a 6th, to Carolina, and Carolina sends Donald and pays 5M to Seattle for a 7th?I'm still waiting for the media to push a Mayfield to the Panthers at $9M and then Darnold to the Seahawks at $5.5M story.
Close enough. The Panthers would eat most of Darnold's salary and the Seahawks would pay Darnold the remaining $5.5M. Effectively the Panthers would upgrade from Darnold to Mayfield for $3.5M whilst the Seahawks end up $5.5M out of pocket for a debatable upgrade. I'm definitely not a Darnold fan and I have no idea how the Seahawks really view the QB market, but to me Lock vs Smith is an impending train wreck in super slow-mo. Hopefully i'll look back on this post in a year's time and say how did I get the QB situation so badly wrong but for now Darnold, Lock, and Smith all look like terrible options. Are you saying Cleveland sends Mayfield and pay 9M of his contract for a 6th, to Carolina, and Carolina sends Donald and pays 5M to Seattle for a 7th?
Actually I think the double trade and partial contract pay will work.Close enough. The Panthers would eat most of Darnold's salary and the Seahawks would pay Darnold the remaining $5.5M. Not sure if I read it right.....did you say in this scenario the Browns are either getting or trading a 6th rounder to get this done? Just my opinion but do not see them doing either (picking up that amount of his deal and only getting a 6th or dealing a 6th)Close enough. I think the Browns will have to eat $8-10M of Mayfield's salary just to move him...sans pick. If they want a pick in return they'll have to eat even more salary...effectively buy a pick. That's the current market situation. It could get better, it could get worse. I think the Mayfield market could get significantly worse if Lance looks like a starter and the 49ers talk about cutting Garoppolo. Not sure if I read it right.....did you say in this scenario the Browns are either getting or trading a 6th rounder to get this done? I think Mayfield is a mid pack QB. Definitely not top ten, definitely not bottom ten.
The way I see it, he had one season with decent coaching & no injuries.
If you are saying it will cost the browns $8-10 mil to move him and not even get a pick back my guess is we'd keep him.I think the Browns will have to eat $8-10M of Mayfield's salary just to move him...sans pick.
