We just had a miscommunication. I don't think Mayfield would ever agree to play for the Browns ( jilted lover syndrome) nor do I think the Browns plan to ever play him. You seem to think the Browns might start Mayfield ( depending on a suspension) You stated they just needed to sit down with Mayfield and convince him it was for his own good to play, my stance is that is BS . The best thing for Mayfield is to force a trade ( no matter how shitty the offers are) or force them to cut him. It only (potentially) benefits the Brown to increase his trade value because why would Mayfield give a rats ass what the Brown get in return for him, a higher return for him doesn't benefit him and the possibility of injury is real. Where ever he plays in 2022 he'll have to prove his worth with that team and he wants that to happen when the season kicks off, not later then that.
I gave you your exact words and it was far from a miscommunication. Just a foolish thing to say, but whatever.

You don't think he'd EVER agree to play for the Browns? If the Browns played hardball with him and kept him around with the idea he come to camp he's going to sit out, not be paid AND not get an accrued season? Not even sure the Browns would need to convince Baker this is what he should do (come to camp) as his agent would hopefully be smart enough to tell him.

Baker playing well only benefits the Browns? It does not benefit the guy who wants to play to prove he is worth a nice extension? seriously, are you just messing with me?

There was way too much back and forth for me to read, so I don't know enough about what either of you said to comment. Based on our conversation though, I'm guessing that isn't exactly what he said :D
It was an exact quote. "it's a homer fantasy to have Baker start".

was that too much to read or can you offer an opinion on whether you agree with that comment....knowing Baker starting means long suspension (or injury) to Watson?

Good grief why why would he want to prove his worth playing for the Browns when he could be proving his worth playing for the team that either traded for him or signed him? Best thing for Mayfield is to force a trade ASAP or force the Browns to cut him, he's have to be a complete fool to buy what your selling because like I said that ONLY benefits the Browns and TBH I don't think the Browns plan on him being on the roster and going that route even if Watson gets a suspension. They signed Brissett for that.

Of course he might prefer to be traded but if the Browns keep him isn't he better off playing well than not playing or playing poorly? You can keep saying it only benefits the Browns...but saying it wont make it less foolish.

How can baker force a trade or force the Browns to cut him? The Browns are in no rush, have plenty of cap space and can really do whatever they think is best for them.

The Browns are in no rush and have the cap space, but the air negativity that would come with Mayfield presence would not be desirable . Watson force the Texans to trade him, Antonio Brown forced the Steelers to trade him ( and killed the trade to the Bills and forced the Raiders to release him) unhappy players force trades or cut in the league, that’s a fact.
Just can’t see Mayfield on the Browns roster when games start up. Think the Browns are just deciding when the time is right. If the NFL states what happens in regard to Watson may be the right time. Maybe no suspension happens, or maybe it’s only 3 games, or maybe the suspension starts in 2023 any of those outcomes would green light dumpling Mayfield in the next press release. Any ways IMO it is not if the Browns will dump him prior to the season kicking off, it’s when this off season they make it happen.

Easy he can come down with a mysterious injury. Happens all the time. Look at the game Ingram played with the Steelers when he was unhappy. All of a sudden he was hurt when he made it known he wanted a trade.

Then he is traded to KC and he is miraculously healthy enough to play.

He holds all the cards right now. A hefty salary. I would be shocked if he ever suits up in a Browns uniform again. They signed Brissett for when Watson is suspended. Now its just a waiting game.

Of course you want the Browns to recover some assets from a lost 1st round pick and I believe you will be sorely disappointed.

My guess is also that he gets moved. Dumped as in released? Nah...IMO they'd hang onto him over that option.

Not sure how Baker presence would be some air of negativity as only guy heard actually mention him (Ward) says he still keeps in contact with him.

Dumped as in released?
Dumped as in trading him for what ever is offered and if that is to painful cutting him. Yah one of these two things.

It's the off season and no camp yet, so no press yet, but that will change. Your just being obtuse in pretending Mayfield presence won't bring some ugliness with it.

I don't see any way Mayfield gets cut before Week, <picks a random number>, 6. The Rams would probably take him at $2.86M right now if the Browns would eat the remaining $16M. I'm sure there are other teams who would want him as a back-up and who would be willing to pay more. I don't think anyone is willing to take Mayfield at $18.86M today even if all of their QBs were lost for the season.

What do you feel the Rams should give in the way of draft capitol or players if the Browns agree to pay 16 million?

Just listen to some media which suggested maybe Mayfield could offer some of his almost 19 million back to the Browns in order to get released.
Interesting idea. They were mentioning numbers like 3 million to get released.

Except that Cousins is better then Mayfield whos future is journeyman back up. Holding a clip board can be lucrative.
Ok then.
Guess we are back to Mayfield going to Seattle!

The Rams have no reason to be sold on either of their back-up QBs, but equally they aren't going to give up valuable picks for a back-up QB. It would come down to how much the Rams were prepared to pay Mayfield and whether the Browns would eat the rest. My point was that multiple playoff-hopeful teams would take him as their back-up QB...at a discount price. Mayfield is a competent starter. He's in the 16-24 range and someone will take him if the Browns offer him for less than he's worth. No reason for the Browns to do that at this point. Mayfield still has value, albeit less than his contract value, and he isn't toxic like Earl Thomas or Antonio Bryant. I don't see him being any happier as a back-up for another team than he would be backing up Watson in Cleveland, but he's not getting cut.

If Stafford was going to miss the season then it would be a different kettle of fish. I still think Mayfield is a $9-12M player at this point and if the Rams could acquire him at that price without trade compensation i'd be all for it in those circumstances. I hope they wouldn't be interested at $18.86M and lmao at trading a 3rd/4th for him at that price.

...but who knows? The range of opinions and valuations makes for an interesting debate.
