When you're THAT good, your fanbase doesn't have to ask the question. ;)

Savvy?

No, the LOB isn't one of the greatest ever.

Geez...you guys....

I'm hearing that Lynch is the best RB in the NFL today.

That he's going to get 150 yards against the Broncos

And now I'm hearing that you think your defense might be one of the best ever.

Why not just come out and say that Russell Wilson is the GOAT QB, or Pete Carrol the GOAT HC? Or Sherman is the GOAT CB?

You guys are really, REALLY full of yourselves there in Seattle.

I keep reading the same crap from you over and over. I never said any of this bullshit and you come across like all of us are standing on our soap box saying this garbage. Get a flipping grip will ya? If you have a problem with one of us, state it and move on.

They already have the title of the best regular season offense of all time. At least as far as scoring, TD's, and yards. If they can beat Seattle with it's #1 NFC seed and #1 ranked defense, who many are comparing to one of the best defenses of all time, will that clinch them as the #1 offense of all time?

And, on the flip side, if Seattle wins and somehow manages to keep the highest scoring offense of all time to say 10 points or less should they be considered one of the best defenses of all time?

This Superbowl is going to be insanely good just because of questions like these.

No on both questions and the reason is, there are too many rule changes and amount of seasonal games etc.
But what we can say is that PM already has the greatest modern day offense according to stats.
But can you imagine Joe Montana, Johnny U and Dan Marino if the qb skirt rule had been in effect during their time ? They may have put up 60+ TD's and thrown for 6000 + yards....Impossible to compare.
And while I admire the Hawks D, it is not as dominant as the 85 Bears or the 2000 Ravens at this point.
They may get there at some point, anything is possible but they are not there now.
They are however, the best D in the game at this point, and have a chance to make that more arguable if they can beat the best reigning Offense in the SB......I gotta think PM is the smartest guy on the field in that game, with a solid team around him that he knows just what to do with.....I don't think they can stop him, he loves aggressive D's, ask any Ravens fan.

GOD DAMMIT!!!!

How the fuck am I supposed to argue with logic like this?!!?

Now you've gone and done it......I agree with you!

:pound:

IF the Seahawks win, THEN I'd put them up there with the '02 Bucs or '08 Steelers but not in my top 3.

And yes, everything has to be judged by era - QB's included. I always roll my eyes when people say Brady or Manning is the best ever. They played under a different set of rules than Slingin' Sammy Baugh or Johnny Unitas so of COURSE their numbers are going to be higher. Hell, Sammy's football was 6 inches more round in the middle. Try throwing that.

STFU, you don't know dick about Slingin' Sammy or Johnny Unitas. You think they played in an era where playing QB was harder? GTFO of here with that dumbshitness.

I only watched two Broncos games this year so I'm asking, besides the Pats game, did Denver's D fall apart in the other two losses?

Great teams don't lose three games so it takes closer scrutiny when you start talking greatest offense. They're certainly not the greatest team so just how awful was the '13 Broncs D to leave "greatest offense" on the table?

I would say the most fair way to determine what the best offense of all time is would be points per offensive drive against the average for each particular year.

That would be quite a research project. I did a similar one on QB stats that I'm surprised nobody in the NFL media has bothered to do. They could get an intern to do it in the offseason.

I don't know if there's any REAL way to determine it.

First, the rules have been different for a long time so offenses today are going to have inflated numbers. Thus we can really only compare teams in the same 10 or so years.

Second, there are times when offenses hit garbage time and take their foot off the gas - thus scoring less points. Yes?

IMHO, this Bronco offense is the best of the last 10 or so years.

That being said...if they don't win the Lombardi, it doesn't matter.

I don't know if there's any REAL way to determine it.

First, the rules have been different for a long time so offenses today are going to have inflated numbers.

That's why you calculate against the average for that particular year because each year is competing against teams with the same rules. All 32 offenses are inflated compared to 1990, but that's why you take the points per drive and subtract the average points per drive.

Second, there are times when offenses hit garbage time and take their foot off the gas - thus scoring less points. Yes?

That's another factor that makes it hard to compare offenses (or QB stats for that matter). It'll never be a science, but you can get as close as possible without making up some subjective bull shit like total QBR.

It is far easier to surpass the stats of offenses from more than 10 years ago than it is to do the same with a defense. We are in the big offense era now. Not taking anything away from Denver because they have earned the all time status. I mean no other offense in this era has done better, but can't really compare them to those old school days. Same for defense.

What made a few of those old defenses so stand out is even if you look at them as a percentage against the average of their era some of them were crazy. Like the steel curtain held their opponents to something like 50% of the average of points per game in an already stingy era. Someone else can provide the exact stats but it was something like an average of 19 points allowed and they only allowed around 9.

Same thing has to be taken into account for the offenses. How much higher was Denver over the league average compared to some of those great offenses of the past? I haven't researched it as GOAT stuff isn't really my thing. But it is really the only way to compare old school to this new era of rules that massively favor the offense.

4 years in the Navy my ass. Why someone would make up being in the military is beyond me. I just don't understand the lying that goes on in the Intrawebs.

This years Broncos offense is the best offense since the early 90's Cowboys' offense. No question about it. I created a spreadsheet and it was confirmed.

They will have a decent argument. There are a few teams that come to mind:

The Greatest Show on Turf Rams;
The Cowboys with Aikman, Smith, and Irvin;
Brady/Moss Pats.

Stat wise Broncos win, but must keep in context the rule changes as well.

I try to explain that to people and they just don't get it.

The shape of the ball, the Mel Blount rule, the added protection QB's and WR's get these days - none of these things existed back then so of course today's numbers are going to be higher.

The homer fisherman has a spreadsheet though. You must not have seen his post.

the 49ers had a potent offense, & they mowed through the post season better than maybe any team ever.
