I don't buy it....but...What if DC actually selects Mariota?

What does Washington do, if Marcus Mariota is their choice with the 5th pick in the NFL draft?

  • Washington trades one of their current QB's

  • Washington trades both of it's current QB's and selects or signs someone else to B/U Mariota

  • Washington keeps all 3 guys

There are lots of speculators suggesting that Washington will pick M. Mariota if he's there at 5. Honestly, I don't buy it, however, what if the prognosticators are correct? How will that choice change the current roster going forward? Here are the choices........you tell me!

Washington trades one of their current QB's, the question is which one?

Washington trades both of it's current QB's and selects or signs someone else to B/U Mariota Is that wise?

Washington keeps all 3 guys.....is that practical?

I know that there are others who will insist on sticking with the notion that the pick will and/or must be traded for additional choices, while others are focusing in on who, not named Mariota DC selects with the 5th pick. I am not looking for that as there are plenty of threads and articles relating to those scenarios. Thanks!

Option 4. They trade the pick. Washington will not be drafting Mariota. They will find someone that wants that pick. They may not get full value for it, but they will pick up additional picks which is gold to Mcloughan.

I doubt Marcus Mariota falls to 5.

What would the Skins get and who would trade for RG lll, a running QB with busted wheels?

What would the Skins get and who would trade for Cousins, a QB who's prettty good except for the interceptions?

If Mariota falls to 5, the Skins will take him since they do not have a Franchise QB.

In the VERY unlikely scenario that DC picks MM, I see no point in keeping either Cousins or RG. Even though most fans don't want the pick... If it was made, it would not take long for us to start clamoring for MM after Griffin starts the season showing zero improvement and Cousins was a pick machine.

My bet is if we picked MM at 5, both of these guys would probably want out and would even be fairly vocal about it. We all know RG is a crybaby, and even though Cousins hasn't made the most of his opportunities, he hasn't really been given a fair shake at times either.

If they did draft MM, it means they would already have a trade for RG3 in place. That's the only way drafting MM would make sense. You keep KC to start the season as the starter & see how it plays out. If KC isn't getting the job done & the season is basically over 6-8 games into the season, then you bring MM in as the starter.

But I just don't see them drafting MM. It makes no sense. If Gruden can't make it work with RG3, I don't see him making it work with MM. If anything, I could see Was drafting Hundley by either moving back or getting him at the start of the 2nd round.

Well that is assuming the coaching staff and FO feel like MM is a franchise QB?? I think they are bullshitting and driving the interest up to position for a trade. But you are right, he probably won't make it to 5 anyway.

I don't know guys, there are several reports that insist that if he's there, he'll go no further than our pick. Beyond that there are some pretty convincing arguments that neither RGIII nor Cousins have the ability to step-up and seize control of the position. Right now I don't see Mariota as anything more than RGIII 2.0, but who knows, maybe SM & company got a differing opinion of this guy during his workout. Based on the posts here, it seems that no one wants to entertain what it would mean if this team facing that choice selects the guy because our GM believes that an upgrade at the position is Mariota.

I mean if I created a thread like this-

Redskins Set at QB-

We've got RG lll & Kirk Cousins. So No Worries. Nothing to see here. Let's move on to real problems that the Redskins have at more important positions in today's game...

- everybody would come to that tread and call me clueless and out of touch with reality.

So we know Redskins NEED a QB.

We also KNOW there is STRONG desire for Marcus Mariota.

And we have #5 pick. Sheer Luck + Miracle = you better take advantage.

And it's really easy to say, "Just trade down... Lose some value... Oh well, whatever... Lot of positions of need... Why take another chance on a franchise QB when we could just reach for an nose guard or offensive tackle, and just have QB problems for the next 2-3 years..."

NO! I do not like that scenario. Won't kill us to pick a QB first and then get linemen, etc., lower down. Even first round lineman are 50-50 busts.

I can't see Mariota busting.
