To start the offseason we let Roger Safford walk. He’s a damage investment that is going to get to much offseason attention from other teams. For cuts we let Scott Wells, Harvey Dahl, Kendall Langford go and Cortland Finnegan takes a substantial pay cut. We use that money to go after Jairus Byrd and sure up the secondary. I know a lot of people have been talking about drafting a FS but as young as our team is I would prefer some veteran leadership and a known commodity.
In this fantasy mock draft we end up trading the number 2 and 75 picks to CLE for the number 4, 26, 35, 83 and then trade our 5th and 6th and 2015 5th round pick for the 110 pick from Jacksonville.
• Rd. 1 pick 4 WR Sammy Watkins, Clemson 6-1 211
Watkins is the clear number 1 receiver in this year’s draft and a future star. Size is a problem but with Bailey, Austin, and Watkins as our WRs it creates crazy screen and WR running plays. Would be a very exciting offence and we solve our size problems later in the draft.
• Rd.1 pick 13 OT Taylor Lewan, Michigan 6-7 309
Personally my favorite offensive tackles in the entire draft. He has great size, arm length, and athleticism. It may be too much asking him to drop to 13 but I see a mad dash for quarterbacks and with him being the third rated OT in the draft it could happen. Also a pick for the future, if Jake Long doesn’t recover how we envision him we now have a replacement.
• Rd.1 pick 26 (CLEVELAND) DT Ra’shede Hageman, Minnesota 6-6 310
Amazing size and burst for a big man. It also makes our front four the best in the NFL and hides that fact that we won’t have a true number 1 CB after this draft. Honestly though, with this pass rush we won’t need one.
• Rd.2 pick 35 (CLEVELAND) OLB Ryan Shazier, Ohio State 6-1 237
This kid is a little undersized but very underrated. He has great range for an OLB, an aggressive burst to the ball and will make our front 7 nasty as hell. He was very productive and posted a conference-best 143 stops in 2013.
• Rd. 2 pick 44 OG Gabe Jackson, Mississippi State 6-3 336
We find a day one starter to replace Safford and it gives Paul Boudreau another big body to build our offensive line.
• Rd.3 pick 83 (Cleveland) WR Martavis Bryant, Clemson 6-4 211
Last year I didn't like Geno Smith as a prospect because in a lot ways I thought his receivers built up his stats. We picked up both of his WRS and I think it worked out quite well. I also do not think Tajh Boyd is that great either, having his stats inflated quite a bit from his WRS. This also solves our size concerns and gives us that red zone threat.
• Rd.4 pick 106 RB Lache Seastrunk, Baylor 5-9 208
• Rd.4 pick 110 (Jacksonville) CB E.j. Gaines, Missouri 5-10 190
• Rd. 7 pick 203 QB Logan Thomas, Virginia Tech 6-6 248
• Rd. 7 pick 218 OG Andrew Norwell, Ohio State 6-6 316
