COMING SOON

Don't Knock Twice (2017)

Release date: International release is on January 12th. But I heard it had limited releases elsewhere (UK?).

Synopsis: A mother desperate to reconnect with her troubled daughter becomes embroiled in the urban legend of a demonic witch.

UK horror film comin atcha! Surprised I hadn't heard about this one? Probably overlooked it at some point. But this looks pretty legit. Obviously a ripoff of movies like The Ring, amongst others, but it will be interesting to see how the Brits do it. Always been a fan of UK horror. Read that this was filmed entirely in Wales. Director is Caradog James. Loved his film The Machine (sci-fi thriller). Fingers crossed!

The Divide (2011)

What a crazy story this film tells. What appears as a straightforward survival movie quickly turns into a fairly epic thrill ride. This is a pretty unpleasant film to tell you the truth. The levels of degradation that the survivors resort to is fairly grim. Verbal, physical and sexual violence all manifest themselves as these people lose touch with their humanity. They are not a particularly nice bunch of people to begin with, so this does pose some problems for the audience empathizing with any of them. Nevertheless, the film does generate quite a bit of suspense and there are some very unpleasant moments of nastiness. So it does work in a brutal in-your-face kind of way. And this is the movie's chief selling point. Incredible performances from Biehn, Ventimiglia & Eklund. Great cinematography, acting, and suffocating atmosphere. While the setting is almost exclusively limited to the bunker, there is one unusual moment where a new group of antagonists are introduced and the survivors begin to fight them off. One of the survivors was able to exit the confines of the bunker and come briefly into contact which opened a whole new can of worms. Surprisingly that storyline never really tied off, but it did add to the suspense. Probably could have done without it though. The biggest drawback however is the pacing. Many people will lose interest after a half hour or so because the progression is very slow. But its one of those movies where you will be glad that you finished it.

Antagonists come in all shapes and forms... 8/10

A couple of things: I finally watched the remake of Poltergeist and loved it. The cast was spot on, especially the son and the dad. I think I remember someone saying on here that Rockwell didn't cut it, but I disagree; he played the somewhat befuddled-but-kinda-cool-even-tho-he's-stressed-dad to a tee, imo. Special effects were, of course, top notch. Liked the ghostbuster who sacrificed (?) himself as well. Good stuff.

Second thing: I've been killing M. Night Shamalamadingdong in this thread...but Split looks pretty dang cool.

About to check HBO Now and Netflix for tonight's horror movie choice.

I'll be back; until then, meet my new pet. She's such a good little ...GHOUL...

I'm a huge fan of Rockwell. That being said, the remake did nothing for me.

and there's worse. However, I was looking for a gif from Family Guy where they portrayed her as an anteater. Couldn't find it.

I remember that. Funny enough, her as an anteater didn't look too different than real life.

America loves blond actresses that do the whole scrunch face thing like she does. Meg Ryan, whom no one has heard from in years, handed Zellweger that torch.

Open Grave (2013)

This is a bit of an underrated zombie-horror film. It's not a perfect movie by any means because the storytelling could've been better and there were some questionable plot holes. But overall I was thoroughly impressed at the end of the film which I almost didn't make it to. Through the first half of the film I was quite annoyed with the progression which in turn made me lose a bit of interest, but I stuck with it and I'm glad I did. The plot is very creative albeit a tad bit convoluted. The cat & mouse mystery side of the progression leaves you very confused at times. It does a good job of obscuring the climax but I think they tried too hard at times which led to the confusion and possible plot holes. It has the suspense & intrigue to keep you going though. Great cinematography & acting, but could have used a little more gore. I think its a must-see for zombie-enthusiasts, but don't get your hopes up for something amazing.

Solid zombie mystery-thrill ride... 7.5/10

Train to Busan 2016 Korean Zombie movie (with sub titles)

Yea, another Korean horror movie from me (You got a problem with that?)

I would give it a 7, no problem.

For a Zombie movie this is different. They really make you love the cast and the zombies are a bit different. But they could have used some more CGI.

Landmine Goes Click (2015)

Thanks for the rec @SonnyCID :suds:

A disturbing film to add to the revenge thriller genre. Not the most f*cked up thing I've ever watched though, so there's that lol. But it does leave you with a very deep unpleasant feeling afterwards. Feels somewhat reminiscent of the I Spit On Your Grave films, but with some twists. My biggest knock on it would be the character stupidity. How the girl didn't catch on to what was going to happen long before it did is a huge flaw to me. There's no way that you could be that stupid in that situation. But that brings me to my next point. This is definitely one of those films that begs the question "what would you do?" and then delivers the resolution you were probably thinking of. But the crazy thing is, it doesn't leave you feeling satisfied, rather disturbed. Maybe the underlying theme or purpose is to give you retrospect about the age old saying "an eye for an eye". I'll let you be the judge. Cinematography is good, acting is meh, the plot is very basic, and there is very little gore. Not sure that I would recommend it, but it wasn't a bad movie. Fair warning there is an annoyingly long r@pe scene.

Disturbing revenge story... 6.5/10

Let Me In (2010)

th

Abby (Chloe Grace Moretz) befriends a bullied 12 year old social misfit (Kodi Smit-McPhee), who spends most of his evenings dreaming of revenge on his tormentors. He falls instantly for Abby; the one troubling thing is she only comes out at night.

My Take: Wow. How this movie wasn't a huge hit is beyond me. I highly recommend.
