I also watched #Alive recently. I must say that South Korea is kicking the USA's ass in zombie movies recently!2 Netflix watches this weekend, #Alive and The Babysitter.
I thought #Alive was fantastic. Zombie flick that dove head first into the action and kept me interested throughout. Really fun movie.
The Babysitter I've never quite had the urge to watch but finally went for it and enjoyed it more than I was anticipating. Like Home Alone where people are killed. Good mindless watch.
Good zombie lore in a very bare bones plot. Guy in apartment witnesses the zombie outbreak from his apartment window, which is already his modus operandi as he is some sort of video game content provider. He just hangs in his apartment rarely trying to do too much as any noise attracts the fast moving z's. He does see some pretty grusome stuff from his balcony though. Eventually a girl in the apartment across from him makes contact and they communicate as well as they can. Eventually they are forced to make an escape after water and food start running out.
Very simplistic but it works well. A bit of an homage to Rear Window with the guy just watching events unfold but he is unable to intervene.
The good:
*Well paced. The story moves along nicely. You'd think the generally one room setting might bog it down but not really imo.
*The zombie fxs are really good. They don't over-the-top it too much but are very consistent and unsettling.
*Same for the good gore fxs!
*Direction of the action is very good. The rest is ok but is secondary anyways.
The bad:
Not too much here, but...
*Character development is lacking. They try to give the main some backstory but don't give you the details to make it significant.
*The ending is a bit "Meh". Rather abrupt and basically just a conclusion of rhe escape.
The part that bothered me the most was that his apartment door had one of those kickstandy lock things at the bottom but he never bothers to use it! He puts his refrig and furniture in front of the door but can't at any point flip down the little foot thing, even when a bunch of z's are pounding at it. It is a nitpicky point but I was yelling at him every time I saw it.
So, again, very bare bones plot (escape!) but it works very well. A must see for zombie aficionados, and generally recommended for all horror fans.
