Ah, DTV, not TV... Sorry for the mixup.

From the sounds of it, there are multiple rights holders to the franchise. Universal & MGM.

Here's some clarity: Quite Improbably, The Child’s Play Franchise Now Has Competing Projects From Different Rights Holders

So Mancini has nothing to do with this remake? And Brad Dourif won't voice Chucky? How bizarre! Sounds like a cash grab by MGM.
While the new one looks like something I’ll check out at some point, I still prefer Brad Dourif as the voice of Chucky. Probably nostalgia for the old series of movies I suppose. Plus I like the seriousness of the direct to video series, going away from making it a comedy-horror series. I’ll check out the show as well, just to see how it’s going to work.

Btw I don't know if you guys have heard of Kingdom on Netflix but I HIGHLY recommend it. The Koreans are killing it in the zombie department lately!

Is this anything like Train to Busan?

Yer talkin' to a guy who grew up on Creature Features reruns with a lotta the old Universal stuff, and after that, George Romero was pretty much my idol. I never thought I'd love a movie as much as I did that lil' train ride. ;)

I quite enjoyed it but felt it was a movie of 2 halves that almost made it feel like 2 different movies. It's entertaining to talk to people who watched it and everyone has their own reasoning for either enjoying the 1st or 2nd half more. I actually preferred the 1st half as the tension that was built reached very uncomfortable levels that I felt the 2nd half couldn't capitalize on. Still, probably my favorite horror film of '18.

That ending was fucking ridiculous. Ruined the movie.

i thought it was over hyped all around. scariest thing was the any shot of the daughter. yeah, toni can act, but it was just dumb otherwise (with all they hype). i'll watch any type of trash, but i just hate when a hohum horror gets elevated for being boring.

I just felt once it took the turn becoming more about the "point of the end" the movie became very very dumb. Up to that it wasn't bad....not worth the hype it was getting but not bad.

And without revealing too much we now know jumping from about fifteen feet in the air is instant death. News to me.

i'm a bit of the curmudgeon in this thread. i say that while liking shit and hating on things that are well thought of. i guess i go too down at the critical darlings, because when I hear something talked about as the best horror movie of the year, i'd hope it'd provide me with some sense of fear. granted, horror doesn't always work that way. here's the latest i've seen

Late Night Trains (1975) - I get why it's horror, if I explained the premise or compared it to other movies, it'd give it all away, I hate to do that, (Prime)

All light will end - Meh, new offer from netflix, you'd hope a scene telling scary stories around a fire in the woods could lead to some suspense, but no.

Await Further Instructions - a harmful element has entered my room, await a further review (Netflix)

The Detained (Deadly Detention) - Run of the mill breakfast club HS movie, which takes place in a closed down mental institution because...reasons. And the climax was easily telegraphed because...reasons.

Vampyres (Blood Hunger) (1974) - Don't know if this was available on a platform or I found it elsewhere. Meh, would earn high marks on the boob meter, but that's about it.

Not to be a complete negative nelly, one movie i saw in the past 3 weeks, which i don't think i mentioned before that I caught surprised me. Return of the Living Dead 3 (Prime & Hulu). The settings aren't always the best, it's not particularly scary (it is in the zombie genre) but the underlying story was surprisingly well done and they put it together well enough.

Anyone watch Folklore on HBO? One episode in, good stuff.

Different stories from various countries in Asia.
