I think the idea isn't to "give away" a talent like Brown, rather to kick the tires and see what he would fetch given the inflated value that WRs bring. You look at what the Packers and Chiefs got, you look the contract Zay Jones got and you should at least explore possibilities to take advantage of a market gone crazy.
