Was a damn shame the way he got hurt in his prime, he was set to dominate both sports.

Starts at 1:08. I've never seen anyone else do something like that.

The rest of the reel is nothing to sneeze at either.

His HR off our Big Daddy in the AS game was pretty intimidating, too.

Decent article. I wish he kept his list to 10, though. That is the rule, and it keeps the hall to only include the elite of the generation. By going over that limit, you are opening the door to generational fluxes in the numbers (the '90 offense, for example).

I am still of the opinion that Bagwell and Walker do not make the grade, but I am not militant like I am/was about Blyleven. If either make it, I am OK with it. They just do not get my vote.

Reading that got me to thinking about some guys who deserve a spot in the hall, but for "odd" reasons. (not sure why my thoughts went there, so dont ask)

I have 2 guys who I believe deserve a seat at the table...

1) Curt Flood. He was the first free agent. I am not a huge fan of free agency as a baseball fan, but for the players, it made total sense. He was a driver in the process. VERY influential figure in the history of the game.

2) Jose Canseco. "Juiced" has done more for/to the game than just about any other publication in the last 100 years. He may be reviled. He may be sleazy. But he was INCREDIBLY influential. He will never be in, but he should be.

Well now you're just wildly expanding the point of the place. Bill Lee and Mark Fidrych were the "oddest' ever perhaps. Eddie Gaedel was the first midget (or maybe it was Phil Rizzuto?) in the game. Dock Ellis was the only pitcher to ever record a no hitter on LSD.

Your point is well taken, Flood and Canseco have tremendous historical importance to the game, but you're stretching the definition of what the Hall is too far with them, IMO.

I agree 100%

While I say "He deserves to be in", I mean it figuratively, at least in Flood's case. Robinson is in, not only because he was the first AA to play in the bigs, but because he was a beast. Canseco should get consideration in the media wing, although that, too, is meant more for a career, and not a one-hit-wonder. Marris is not in, after all...

Maybe we need a Baseball Hall of Infamy. Put the Black Sox of 1919 in there, too. Bill Buckner (OK, that's not fair). Steve Bartman. Cody Ransom. Dick Allen. Pete Rose. Jeffrey Loria, owner of the Marlins.

I'm sure we could all come up with a few names. Buy an old building in Vegas and make a theme casino out of it, specialize in sports betting.

One more day....it looks like it's going to be Biggio and Schilling, for sure.

Most nonsensical anti-Bonds reasoning I've heard so far, "he made a mockery of the game by putting up ridiculous stats". In other words, Bonds was too good! Yet this same writer was going to vote for Clemens, ostensibly because Clemens did not exhibit a "pattern of deceit".

No Piazza? I thought he was the only obvious first ballot.

Would like to see Morris, but not sure he gets it just yet. I hope so though.

Morris was close in 2012. He might get enough of the anti-steroid vote this time around to push him over the top.

Some of these fringe guys like Mattingly, Morris etc... must be loving the fact that these steroid guys are on the ballot now. I think that is how Goose got in when he did.

It will be interesting to see what happens. I am looking forward to the live coverage.

No one voted in. Wow. Talk about an indictment. Message received loud and clear, nerds. Stupid, sports journalists.

No players were elected to the MLB Baseball Hall of Fame in this year's balloting. 1st time since '96

If all of these guys get in next year than this is just dumb. In the future nobody is going to care that they weren't first ballot guys. I don't think this stand does anything other than give the voters some inflated sense of self righteousness.
