I think you're wrong, MaysFan. Zero chance right now but over time they will accumulate votes as the roid thing gets less raw. I predict 5-6 years from now they get in (Bonds and Clemens). Sosa may get Palmeiro'd though.

Maybe, MAYBE, if the writers were given explicit instructions to ignore the roids, like a judge giving instructions to a jury. But I just don't think it's gonna happen.

Well they will die out eventually. So maybe 5-6 years is too soon but 10-12 is really likely to me.

Also, some may soften their views over time.

And I'm curious, once you get a vote do you get to keep it for life or until you give it back? Or can you be removed from voting?

I had to look it up to be sure, but:

Any retired member of the BBWAA can ask to become a lifetime honorary member, and if approved, gets to vote for life.

As in most things, we'll see....

How many votes they get on the first ballot will give a clue. If they get 30-40% their chances of getting in eventually to me would seem pretty good. If it's 0-10% they got a problem.

Each HOF voter can name up to 10 players on their ballot. Most only name a few (4-6). If you are named on 75% of the ballots, congrats, you are a HOFer. If you are not named on at least 5%(??), you are removed from the next year's ballot. After 15 years, you are removed either way.

The veterans committee handles anyone not on the ballot (non-ballot players, managers, execs, umpires, etc).

My ballot...

Piazza
Biggio
McGwire
Smith
Trammel
Raines

Bonds, Clemens and Sosa all get a protest 1 year ban. Clemens and Bonds will certainly get my vote in '14, and I would need convincing to vote Sosa.

Based on their numbers and their accomplihments, they are all no-brainers. But there is zero chance they get in because of the roids. Zero.

I dont think it zero. I think judging the likely outcomes based on McGwires HOF votes is a little deceptive considering Im not sure he really had a great HOF career with HOF stats. Bonds has a much better chance than McGwire, but i think his chances are slim, but i wouldnt say zero.

Really surprised at the amount of moral arguments being made against the steroid guys by some national baseball writers, Verducci, Heyman.....And the absoluteness of their position.

Personally I go Biggio, Bonds, Clemens and Piazza. All four of them were the best at their position for minimum 3 years during their careers. Steroids or not Bonds and Clemens were probably HOF before that nonsense.

Seems like a decent 4, I might go this route.

***BTW, WTF.....Jeff Conine, Woody Williams, Jeff Cirillo, Ryan Klesko, Reggie Sanders, Aaron Sele, Jose Mesa, Todd Walker, Rondell White?????

Very hypocritical of a sport to admonish "cheating" when it comes to steroids but completely bypass it when it comes to other forms of cheating especially by pitchers that scuffed the ball, threw the spitter etc etc. I guess those are just guys trying to win huh????

Agreed. The HOF is a baseball museum. You can't sanitize it into the Hall of Great Players Who Were Also Good Dudes -- if so, you'd have to throw out Cobb and many others.

It's classic fucking hypocrisy.

I dunno about Biggio. 62.1 career WAR doesn't do it for me.

Oh, and I'd add Schilling to my list as well.

Me too, those would be my 4. And I'm on the fence on McGwire

As far as your WTFs, they always include a bunch of decent but not HOF players on the ballot, just in case. They always get a vote or two.
