you cannot talk sense to haters

....from favorites to 20-24....and convincing themselves how a street free agent will change their season

i dont know why i waste my time...

When was Miami favorites this year? Let's not make up garbage. Best case scenario for Miami was 5th but none of us thought Atlanta would be this good. If they finish 6th with 43-45 wins this was a successful season

I do have to say- Big men take a long time to develop. It takes a mans physicality to play in the post in the NBA. How kids like Anthony Davis do it at age 20, 21 is amazing to me. Tristan Thompson being as effective as he was as young as he was surprised me.

Whiteside is 25 years old- right where I think Big men should be getting into their prime and feel comfortable.

we shall see....if he gets into the starting lineup- how he does against starters- rather against backups in garbage time (which is how he inititally started- all though the Chicago game is impressive) will go al ong way ....

Whiteside is the starter. He came off the bench against Chicago because he was coming back from injury. He began starting on our West Coast trip a few weeks ago

just for the record

Hassan Whiteside was drafted in 2010 in the Second Round by the Sacramento Kings. He played in 1 game in the '10/'11 season and 18 games in the '11/'12 season- all off the bench- where he averaged 1.6pts and 2.2 rebounds

since then he has been out of basketball before signing with the Heat

with the Heat he has played in 18 games- starting 3 of them.

He is averaging 7.7 pts and 6.2 rebounds- in limited attempts he is shooting 50% from the line- and 67% from the field in just under 16 minutes per game.

i dunno about you guys...but I saw people ACTUALLY talking about Jimmy Butler as MVP on here a few weeks ago- and now that looks like an absolute joke.

I saw people claiming LeBron had lost his fastball and the Cavs were screwed- Love was leaving, LeBron was leaving and Blatt would be fired

lets give him sometime through the league before we coronate him anything more than what looks like a decent rotational player.

You do realize 6 RPG in 16 MPG is really good right?

Anyway in the 7 games where he played 20+ MPG, he is avg 11.2 PPG, 10.4 RPG, & 4.5 BPG

And just an FYI. Just because he's been a bench player most of this year doesn't mean he's not playing against starters. How often do you ever see a game where it is 5 bench players against another 5 bench players. Almost everyteam mix their bench with their starters

Sometimes those grocery baggers go on to win Superbowls

Another reason why it is good to watch the games or actually look at game logs is that you have a better chance to break down his numbers. His avgs would look completely different if the heat weren't playing him in very limited minutes when they first signed him.

In 5 of his first 6 games here were his minutes total

2, 1, 6, 5, & 8. Playing those limited minutes will kill your avg.

so whats your prediction?

for Feb and March lets say since Jan is almost over

from you are saying it sure seems like you think he will be the Heat's starting center, averagiing how many minutes and what pts and boards and blocks per game?

just so we have a baseline we can come back to at the end of march and can revisit this thread

my guess...on april 1- Whiteside will be averaging 22 minutes a game, 7.5 points, 7.6 rbs and 1.3 blcks per game for the months feb and march

28.10 PER so far. Obviously a small sample size. He looked good against the Lakers.

His strength is impressive. Long 7-footers like Whiteside tend to be rails. Whiteside has some bulk.

Considering he is a starter now and as I said earlier you can't teach rebounding or shot blocking, I'll say in about 28 MPG he will avg 9, 10, & about 3 blocks per game

health is of course a concern from a 7 footer that has never played meaningful games in the NBA.....can his body take the rigors of the NBA game and ridiculous schedule that these players play...

it sounds like he was already hurt for a few games despite his limited playing time...

3 blocks agame would make him the best shot blocker in the league this season and 10 rebounds per game would have him tied for 13th in the league with a guy named Tim Duncan.

all right.......we can check back on April 1....

He twisted an ankle against OKC last week and missed 2 games. Ankle sprains happens all the time in the NBA.

No big deal

As I said you can't teach shot blocking or rebounding. You either have it or you don't.

If his shot blocking goes down it is likely because he put enough fear in teams that they would prefer to settle for a contested jump shot instead of challenging him in the paint.

just for the record right now Miami has an opposing field goal percentage of .455- good for 19th in the league...

Miami defense been top 5 since Whiteside starting playing consistent minutes.

Obviously you base everything on the stats

just saying if for the season the Heat are at .455 and this guy has only played a few games worth of starters minutes- at the end of Fed and March we should see that number get better.......

dude...holy shit.....i mean......i dont even know what to say to that....

It already started getting better. They were bottom 5 last month around 26th or 27th
