Maybe the "skinnies" should focus on putting a winning product on the field instead of worrying about their merchandise branding. Changing a name and then winning on the field will kill two birds with one stone.

 Those things are not mutually exclusive. The Redskins aren't losing because they're too focused on trying to sell jerseys.

I have heard ^said remarks up the Gorge out here where local fisherman bitch-n-moan about Native Americans and the way Indians get to fish in the Columbia and they don't. Small sample I know. Put it to a vote amongst the folks that name affects, let the cards fall as they may...end of story except for Washington's new name of course.

And I would be fine with that. If the people that the word supposedly offends vote, and the vote came back to abolish the name, I would be totally okay with that.

as a matter of fact it does. Majority rules. this liberal bullcrap that if only 1 is offended it needs to go about any topic in life is a bunch of stupidity. tv magnifies the smallest groups and the stupidest topics to unneeded levels.

this is a non issue of the utmost non- ness . No one with a brain gives a damn.

its a contrived issue that doesn't do a damn thing to help or hinder a damn thing about the lives of indians
Nice to see that you think that those today and yesteryear, with Indian roots who fought for the name change, have no brains.

If some of today's American Indians find it offensive, that's what matters most. Not what you or I think posting in this thread.

It's quite clear that some American Indians still do find it offensive.

so what ? finding something offensive doesn't prove that it is. It just means theres a few cry babies running around.

there are no anti-indian racist laws in effect anywhere. No news reports of Indians getting jumped at schools. Naming a sports team an indian tribe name or a slang name doesn't hurt their damn culture

the only people fighting for this is a dumb woman and a half indian with a political agenda for other reasons who is hated by the tribe he represents = no one cares

Another thing about the original owner. Here's the words of the original fight song that was written by the owners wife.

Where today's song cheers fans to "Fight for old D.C.!" the original version's "Fight for old Dixie!" played directly to the fans' Southern identity. And while the Redskins still use a racial slur for their team name, some words in the original fight song didn't do much to deflect accusations of racism. Where the song now says, "Beat 'em, swamp 'em, touchdown! -- Let the points soar!" it once went, "Scalp 'em, swamp 'em -- We will take 'em big score / Read 'em, weep 'em, touchdown! -- We want heap more!" The lyrics were subsequently cleaned up in the '60s, after Marshall's Redskins were, notoriously in 1962, the last pro team to integrate.

and ? so ? who cares ? just silly LOL they don't use it anymore so bringing it up means nothing. If they still did it would still mean nothing. Just some silly stereotype slang that means nothing and hurts no one. Did Indians scalp victims in the early days= yes they did, so what ?

indian tribes fought other indian tribes too so what ever ?

there is no point if the logo is still used

Here are you words: they fly just fine, it obviously hasn't been changed=Cleveland..the Cleveland logo cant be compared to a black guy with huge lips, that's just reaching and stupid..cartoon characters are characters because they are exaggerated..it hurts no one

Obviously it hurts someone because the Indians made a conscious effort to limit the exposure of its logo. This moves also means they are thinking about not having Wahoo be the mascot anymore. Especially if the Redskins change their name.

So yeah there's a point. You just choose to ignore it. Blissful ignorance.

no, there is no point..the article says they still use the logo. Its stupid to say limited use. Its either available or it isn't but liberals are so stupid they think it means something. They wear it on the field and haven't changed that. There is no total rebranding. They are just doing a half ass job.

if you offended buy the C logo, if not ,buy the indian logo lol what a marketing strategy

that proves no obvious hurt. It just prove they did something different. Hurts someone ? you better not change anything because of a lousy one person

The Washington Native Americans. They could keep the same logos, but they might have to change the song.

I am offended by the team name. It should be the Maryland Redskins. It's offensive to associate the team with Washington.

But in all seriousness, if the NFL REALLY thought the name Redskins was offensive, they would have imposed penalties and fines on Daniel Synder. So far, none have come to fruition. The federal government does not have the right to force the Skins to change its name. It's called the 1st amendment, and it's there to protect against GOVERNMENT intrusion on speech.

If they don't make the playoffs this season you could probably just call them the Deadskins.

Question for people who, for whatever reason, think the name needs to go.

Honest question: can you explain to me exactly how the name of a football team hurts another person. Like specifically.

Open up old wounds? How does saying the n-word hurt African Americans or the c-word for Chinese Americans?

If I were the owner of the Redskins, I would change the name to something like the Warriors, Cherokee, or some other Native American name and keep the helmets and jerseys. Changing the name only produces a net positive. But on the other hand, it's not my call and the intent of the nickname is to praise the Native American culture. Having the government come in and dictate things is a direct violation of the 1st amendment.

I think the Senate should change their own name to the "Politically Correct Club"

Please note that I don't disagree with changing the name. I just disagree with our politicians who cannot get anything right, telling us what to do.....

Even if it is offensive the PC police shouldn't be able to do a thing about it, including political pressure. If is even 25% offensive to native americans there would be alot more pressure from the native american community.

Only way to truly change it is have people stop buying Redskins apparel and tickets not political pressure from guys trying to prove they aren't racist.

So the "N" word, varied, can be used in music but Redskins can't be used as a team/org. name?

both profiting from it...
