Man, just assumed if he didn't make that list he couldn't have been there as he's better than most they had. Should have checked.

And, yes, he's better than many of the disasters my team has trotted out.
going off memory so might be incorrect.
Seems they would get a retread, Fitz, Esiasion, Favre, probably others, but then would draft their future QB, so they would end the service of the retread, since back then you backed up the Brinks truck for the new 1st rd. QB. Not like today with rookie contracts.
Favre I believe retired but the others might have kept the jets simi-relevant. There is a reason it is said where QBs go to die. Except Fitzy was resilient

This is the worst part of the article, the writer feeding into Smith's bullshit agenda. Cam has been unfairly starting for years.

Whether you can handle the truth or not, the fact is black QBs have historically not been offered the same opportunities white ones have, even when they’re superior athletically. The fact that Colin Kaepernick and Cam Newton are currently free agents while duds like Mason Rudolph and Sam Darnold still have jobs in the NFL speaks for itself.

Fortunately for Smith, Pete Carroll is on the right side of this issue.

got curious. so I looked up the Jets.
Last time the Jets had a winning record was when Fitzgerald started all 16 games. 2015 they went 10-6.

Funny speaking of Geno Smith crying why he isnt given his chances.
2015 He was supposed to be the starter, but before the season started he got in a fight with a defensive teammate.
Following an incident in the locker room, in which starting quarterback Geno Smith suffered a broken jaw after being punched by linebacker IK Enemkpali, Fitzpatrick was tentatively named the Week 1 starter for the Jets
Where Fitzmagic showed up & kept the job.

Then in 2016 Fitztragic showed up & eventually Geno Smith replaced him as the starter, before getting a Season ending injury. Fitzmagic came in relief for a comeback win.
So the job was never taken from him. Even though he sucked. It was always an injury.
In 2014 he started 13 games (Vick started 3) where the team went 4-12. Very next year Fitzy went 10-6 with same team.
In 2017 he went to back up Eli. He was never gonna compete for the starting job.
So the idea he thinks it is something other than he sucks is stupid & should feel lucky to be able to be the back up QB on an NFL team.

Seems to me every opportunity he was given he blew?

If that was Brady, they would have said he was sliding to give himself up. The play is dead. :heh:

Eh if it'd been Brady whatever.

The fact it was Sanchize (the fact he was given that stupid nickname is beyond me to this day) and the Jets fans were constantly gloating about him saying 'he made the playoffs' (when we all know it was the D and rush O that did) made it all the more hilarious.

In the year 2022 I can't think of a team or coach that wouldn't start a black QB if he gave them the best shot at winning.

And it's lazy to compare Rudolph and Darnold to Kaepernick and Newton.

Money and baggage plays a huge issue in these decisions. Darnold is guaranteed 18 million dollars that's why he still has a job and Rudolph is a whooping 4 million cap hit and probably not the starter anyways.

Kaepernick and Newton both likely have jobs if they weren't toxic to the touch for teams that the distraction isn't worth what they bring to the field.

Geno you're not a starting caliber QB end of story. You had a chance to prove on the field how much you've grown when Wilson was out and you were just mediocre.

Mason Rudolph is due $3M in 2022, (which is also what he was paid in 2021), and none of it is guaranteed. Smith is due $3.5M in 2022, of which $500K was guaranteed and this has already been paid. They are back-up QBs of similar value.
