Wilson was sliding and the ref was an idiot. It may have been the same official that spotted Walker at the 1 and gave Lynch the first down when JSmith stopped him.

Nope. Think of how many times RBs go head to head with LBs (especially blocking FBs).

It's only a penalty on a defenseless player, which includes a QB looking to throw.

Fair enough I was thinking he was defenseless because someone had his wrapped up and then the other guy came iand hit him in the face... But switching back and forth between Giants and Niners and a six pack will scramble the memory. I do remember thinking it was a shitty play though.

No, helmet to helmet only applies to a defenseless receiver or a quarterback in the pocket. As soon as he leaves the pocket he is considered a runner even though he can still throw.
