Im nervous as hell about this game, After how we played last Sunday we have to step it up. This Seahawks team is gonna be fired up and looking to make a statement tonight. There defense is legit I would even say they are better then the Giants D. We have to get control of this game early and hold on. I do think we have a good shot to win but gotta drop all the cutsie crap tonight and play some Niner Football.

I have a bad feeling. I guess I'm still down about how my teams all did over the weekend.

SEA vs SF are we in the same league.

this is funny

I know one thing we are better than them at: Drafting.

Sando posted on his blog the number of snaps for the 2012 draft class for each NFC West team. Seattle has over 1000 snaps for its rookie class. SF has 0. League average is 700. Now admittedly SF had a good lineup to begin with but you'd like to see a few rookies at least push the backups for some special teams time. Yikes.

Our 2012 draft class has 3 players making huge contributions - RW, Wags and Bruce. Turbin has been a competent backup at RB. Lane is doing well on special teams. Scruggs is getting some time in pass rush situations. Sweezy and Howard are still guys with potential backup roles. Just a

Undeniably so. SF is still dominated by the draft talent of when we were still winning division titles. In terms of guys they drafted, here's the breakdown:

Offense:

('09: 10th) Crabtree
('07: 28th) Staley
('10: 17th) Iupati
('09: UDFA) Boone
('10: 11th) Davis Anthony
('06: 6th) Davis Vernon
('05: 1st) Smith Alex
('11: 211t) Miller
('05: 65th) Gore

Defense:

('07: 97th) McDonald
('04: 104th) Sopoaga
('10: 17th) Bowman
('07: 11th) Willis
('11: 7th) Smith Aldon
('07: 126th) Goldson
('07: 147th) Brown

This side of 2007 (talent 5 years or younger), they have 7 starters they have drafted. All but 2 were in the first round. We currently have 12. Only 3 of those 12 in the first round.

Over all, 10 of the 16 total starters they have drafted required a first round selection. To compare, we have 7 non first round starters on our defense alone.

SF is an aging team. They are also a poorly drafting team. Their talent the result of low first round choices in bulk. They suck long and hard to get their starters and only one at a time.

Their ability to parlay late first round picks into starters is thus far no different than all of the other rounds they pick in. Unless it's a top 15 pick, SF can be counted on to waste the pick like one relies on the tide.

SF's window is now. Because they are perilously close to rotting from the inside out. They have old talent on the DL. They have an aging RB who is defying father time. They were fortunate to be relatively injury free last year. Their age and the law of averages suggest they shouldn't come to expect that as the year goes. Attrition, when it comes, will degrade SF's ability sharply as that will expose their poor drafting over years.

I have no idea what their cap situation is. With that many mature and overmature starters on the roster, I'd have to think it's pretty dire. They have been incredibly consistent in their inability to replenish talent on that roster outside of early first round picks.

This is a team that, when the collapse comes, it will come crashing down almost overnight. They'll go from playoffs to top 10 pick in a year. And probably stay there for some time.

They better win. Since I live in Seattle I won't be able to read the sports pages or listen to any sports radio otherwise. An angry 49er asskicking of the Seasquawks would be nice.

That write-up from the Seattle fan is laughable. It's littered with assumption and error, on top of being built on a flawed premise.

First 49er on the field for pre-game warmups is Brandon Jacobs. He's boxing the goal-post padding like it owes him money ...

I think the Seahawks might be stymied by the fiery yellow orb in the sky today. It's 84 degrees at Candlestick Point. That is not a typo...

Going out on a limb, but I'm predicting Brandon Jacobs' 49ers debut tonight.

Most are predicting this game to be very physical. Having Jacobs active would be interesting, and certainly fit the theme.

Barrows:

Joe Staley walks onto the field in game socks and pink game cleats. (FYI: Jacobs was in socks and cleats last Sunday, too, so ...)

Staley is not doing much at all during warmups. Trainers spending a lot of time w/ Manningham, however, to see if his shoulder is ready
.

-------

Maiocco:

WR Mario Manningham is catching some passes from Scott Tolzien. The training staff watches. Looks as if his right shoulder is bothering him.

---------

Sando:

Yards per play on third down this season: Rams 4.5 (24th), 49ers 4.1 (28th), Cardinals 3.8 (30th), Seahawks 3.6 (31st). Jags last at 3.2.
