The game has something of the opposite feel to last year's game: Niners were coming off an emotionally draining, primetime game against a serious Super Bowl contender to face a Hawks team that needed the game to stay in the wild card hunt. This game will be much more important to the Niners than the Hawks, which hopefully will be enough, combined with the Hawks' MNF game, to give the Niners an edge. We shall see. Events tonight could have a significant impact. If the Hawks win, they don't have all that much to play for next week.

That's a very good point… From the emotional standpoint no question the Niners need this one more right now… Similar to the situation we were in last year… Human nature is real…

Grant is channeling his father's hypercritical mode in slamming the 49ers or the players every once in a while. I think that column way overstates the gap. Two things, Wilson came into the league with more of a pro style background than Kaepernick did, and was working with the same receivers he had last year, which seems like kind of a big deal when you're talking about "throwing people open", or making reads which requires you to trust your receivers down the line. There's no doubt that Wilson is ahead of Kaepernick now, and Kaepernick needs to work on reads and progressions, but let's see how he does with Crabs and Manningham in there. And I think Grant basically calling Kaepernick a choke artist this year is bullshit.

Quinton Patton - WR - 49ers

49ers rookie WR Quinton Patton is not on the Week 14 injury report.

He'll return from his foot fracture against Seattle. Patton was making moves up the depth chart before he got hurt, on the heels of an impressive preseason. He isn't on the re-draft radar, but has plenty of Dynasty league appeal. Patton figures to be San Francisco's No. 4 receiver Sunday, behind Anquan Boldin, Michael Crabtree, and situational deep threat Mario Manningham.

Golden Tate - WR - Seahawks

Golden Tate missed Seahawks practice Wednesday with a hip injury.

The injury is not known to be of any concern; the Seahawks also held Marshawn Lynch out of practice Wednesday, albeit for "not injury-related" reasons." Tate played over 50 snaps in Monday night's skunking of the Saints.

Mario Manningham - WR - 49ers

Mario Manningham (knee) was limited in Wednesday's practice.

Manningham is fine. The team continues to manage his reps. Now the No. 3 receiver in San Francisco, Manningham is well off the fantasy radar.

Well, that was before the MNF game had actually occurred. I didn't expect the Hawks to cakewalk through that game the way that they did. Still a more significant game for the Niners than the Hawks, but the Niners were mentally and physically exhausted after the Pats' game last year. The Hawks seem to be in much better shape this year.

Gotta be honest, I think he overstates things on both sides (good for Wilson, bad for Kaepernick) a bit, but it's hard for me to disagree with most of his conclusions. I've made quite a few of those points myself. I have some problems with equating completion % and accuracy, and he puts way too much stock in Wilson's most recent games while ignoring that Kaepernick's accuracy has been quite good over the past two weeks. But at its root, pretty much every one of his points is correct. Kaepernick has a long way to go to become a franchise QB. Wilson is much closer right now. I am glad he laid some of that blame on the coaching staff, too. I have not been impressed with the offensive coaching/playcalling at all this season.

Oh, and as far as a choke artist, I disagree to an extent. Kap's rating is a 58 when trailing, but it's 81 when trailing by 1-8 points. That's real choke territory, when you're in striking distance. Taking chances trying to bring a team back in a blowout isn't the same as choking. But in particular against Carolina and the Saints, he made some terrible decisions late in very winnable games.
