The point is that telling both teams that the score stands, would produce several options. Accept the score and move on, Rattle the brains of the Bills and make them decide whether or not to finish the game and move forward, or pull this bullshit, as if the game never happened and everyone walks away with their hands in their pockets.

Now the league has set a precedence. What happens if a player actually dies on the field next time?

What the league should have done is simple. Complete the game last night (Thursday).
Move the schedule ahead to next week and eliminate the bye week between the league championship games and the Superbowl.

All games get played, all teams get an extra week to rest and heal, including the Bills and Bengals and the league schedule is intact.

If Hamlin had died last night, would the NFL cancel the rest of season?? Would the Bills need a month before they could practice?
Where do you draw the line?
I get it. Hence why I also added
"Not that I agree.

IMHO, they should have played through that night, or Tuesday, or let Buffalo forfeit"

Emotionally, the Bills players received a traumatic blow, probably followed yesterday by a very uplifting message.
Physically, Buffalo's starters are essentially getting an extra weeks rest to heel the smaller bumps, bruises a strains before playing the Patriots.
Maybe not intentional by Roger and Vincent, but still an advantage.

With Hamlin talking to the team now via Facetime..... this game is going to be a disaster for the Patriots. The Bills are going to "WIN ONE FOR THE GIPPER" and destroy us.

Sad but true.
Not sure that they get the field goal though.

It called life.

These guys live such a protected existence that they can't deal with much of what the rest of us deal with in a 'normal' life. That's why we all are constantly shaking our heads when they do such stupid shit outside of the arena. Illegal weapons, murder, domestic violence, high speed auto accidents are just a few of the things we see or read about them. Because of their privileges, they believe that nothing pertains to them. What's worse, we all accept and even make excuses for them.

As someone in here said, If a coworker is killed or dies in shop or factory, the company doesn't shut down, tell everyone to home and then come back to work when they feel that they have resolved the problem mentally. Somebody cleans up and work goes back to normal and the guy who is gone is replaced as soon as his boss can find someone.

Football has historically been called a battle or a war. It's not. It's a game or a sport. It's violent and every one of the guys on field has seen some pretty horrendous injuries and hits that have rendered others totally unconscious. What happened last Sunday should not have been the total shock that it was, because it's never been out of the realm of a possibility.

With the history of players being paralyzed, having limbs so severely damaged that their careers have been ended and the incredible number of players who have been crippled by injuries and the deaths that have occurred from heat and congenital conditions, Everyone over-reacted to the events last Sunday.

MY opinion and you're welcome to disagree.

Hence the 30 minute break.

Coaches take your team to the locker room, let them know the game goes on. Shake it off. IMO the game should have been played, at the very least you cannot award the game to who had the lead half a quarter into the game
You present a valid opinion. I certainly agree about awarding the outcome based on a 5 or so minute game. For anyone complaining about any other team impacted, that's too bad... The game wasn't played and the results of all games played are factored. If the Pats lose out, my opinion is no different - they didn't play well enough to earn their way in.

Instead of throwing D1ldo's on the field like a Bill's fan, Pats fans should throw blow up dolls with #3 jersy's on the field with their eyes taped over and burn marks on their chest.
That'll get them riled up for some penalties...

Too soon?

Can't the Pats dedicate the game to Hamlin too, in the name of all football players everywhere?

Dear Doctor Bullshit,
You have no idea what it is like to be a professional athlete!
You spend your young life tirelessly working towards your goals and your goals only.
You give up most opportunity in life to spend all on your chosen goal
You can't have a bad day. Friggen flu can cost you a career.
You live with the knowledge that one day you'll be suffering great pain - maybe sooner.
I could elaborate much further!

As someone who worked in safety, you should know that if someone dies on the job, work absolutely shuts down. Investigations must occur. Fines or even charges may be filed. I have seen business's vitually crippled even after resumption of activities.

I have a friend who competed against me who is now qudriplegic - quite the price to pay for a sport.
I am reminded every day by the pain and reallize how lucky I am to not be crippled or dead.

Ken, you should think about what you are posting before you start pontificating!

Agree.

Again, that's why I said it should have been played Tuesday at the latest, or play should have resumed Monday night.

Granted, it's not everyday they are doing CPR on the field, but he left in an ambulance, not a hearse.

I've been on a couple construction projects where there have been some very serious injuries. Life changing.
As well as a death, though it was not work related it was a heart attack on a city employee in his late 60's. One of my employees performed CPR for 20-30 minutes as part of a 4 person team of former paramedics.

The Project Managers each time expressed that in hindsight they wished that he had shut the projects down because nobody's mind was on the work afterwards and it actually created a greater risk with nobody focused on the task at hand.

I have investigated work places deaths. (4)

The only area shut down on any of them was the area where the death occurred. It was cordoned off and the remainder of the building or site kept working. Word spreads and other areas temporarily hiccup but keep moving.

Like I said, My opinion, feel free to disagree.

Football is not war or battle. Believe me, I played football in HS and coached youth and HS for 44 years.

I've also been in real battle. When someone got half of his chest torn off, I didn't quit fighting and ask everyone if I could have a couple days off and seek psychiatric counseling and get my shit together.

I also have experience, maybe not in the NFL, but in real life, real work and real war.

Back to the game.

The Bills are gonna be pumped now that things are back to normal. Hopefully a bit too pumped.

Wonder where the NFL will send the teams to play if the weather gets too nasty. Miami??

You guys are too negative. I see the Pats covering the spread at least.

If most of the runners are good to go, run the ball 60 times and all’s good. Can’t find the green font :(
