I don't think the hold up with Dumervil signing with the Niners will have anything to do with contract numbers...it won't get to that point because he will require that he goes to a team where he starts.

If I were him, I'd take a 1 year deal with a solid defensive team where he can start. Some place like the Falcons, Pats, Bears, Jets, Steelers. He can try to put up great numbers and then do free agency properly in 2014 when he's more likely to sign a long term big contract...he's only got a small window here where teams will still consider signing him to a long term deal.

He's an idiot if he goes to a 4-3 defense. He's much better suited for a 3-4 defense. The pats, ravens, and jets sound like his best options.

By the way, the Greg Jennings signing was downright ridiculous IMO. He's not the most talented guy, he had an all-world QB, he'll be 31, and he's had injury problems. But they give him a monster 5-year, 47 million dollar deal?

The Vikings seem to enither make genius moves or completely stupid ones. There's very little in between.

Genius: Harvin trade
Stupid: Jennings.
Genius: a lot of their draft picks over the last 5 years.
Incredibly stupid: Christian Ponder.

They're still gonna be tough this year though.

Here's a name I didn't know was out there as a FA: Sedrick Ellis. I didn't know the Taints cut him. I wonder how much he'd command. Dorsey's gonna play in the middle; Ellis could be a guy to back up all 3 spots if he came on the cheap (kind of like I was saying about Allan Branch).

I'd still want the Niners to draft Hankins and / or Carradine, but he could be a nice, cheap pickup.

?

-AC-5. Sedrick Ellis/ Glen Dorsey- Again, rotation and depth. Two huge bust's who could resurect their careers with a strong contribution and showing on an already stout defense

Sick- "I didn't know Sedrick Ellis was a FA. I don't think he brings much. Dorsey at least brings experience in a 3-4. I'd be open to signing Dorsey for cheap if RJF doesn't re-up."

-AC- Sedrick Ellis never playing in a 34 defense is what intrigues me about him, he might be servicable in that rotation...

Sick- Have to disagree about Ellis. I don't think he'd be any good in a 3-4 at all.

Greg Jennings' contract contains $2.5M in incentives, he'll make $500K for any year he makes the Pro Bowl, with 18M guaranteed. Haven't seen any other breakdown yet, though.

CBS Sports' Jason LaCanfora reports that Elvis Dumervil has agreed to sign with agent Tom Condon.
Dumervil's fired player rep, Marty Magid, waived the five-day waiting period to hire a new agent, so he's now available to sign with teams immediately. The Ravens have Dumervil "firmly" on their radar and are expected to meet with him next week. The Titans and Patriots have also shown interest, though New England can likely be ruled out given their history with Condon.

Chip Kelly adds to his arsenal
March, 16, 2013 9:23AM ET
By AJ Mass | ESPN.com

The Philadelphia Eagles already have DeSean Jackson, Jeremy Maclin, Jason Avant and Riley Cooper at wide receiver, but that's not stopping the team from getting as many potential weapons as they can in order to implement a new look offense under new head coach Chip Kelly. According to the Philadelphia Inquirer, the Eagles have acquired Arrelious Benn from the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in a trade involving an exchange of late-round draft picks. Benn missed the second half of last season with a shoulder injury that sent him to the injured reserve, but when he is healthy, he can - pardon the pun - shoulder the burden of punt and kick returns so that Jackson does not have to risk taking any unnecessary extra hits.

In that sense, even if Benn doesn't make an impact by running routes, if he can help to make sure the Eagles don't lose Jackson for any significant amount of time, then he's an asset well worth the minimal cost.

so if Kaep goes to the final year of his rookie contract, AND continues to play like he is now (or close to it), won't he command near $20M/year?

being a top 'young' QB, i'd think close to it.
