Cards release Desmond Ridder. He’s not even going to be on a roster this year - that shows how awful the Falcons QB situation was last year and what a gigantic dumbass Arthur Smith was for starting him.
The Cardinals are rolling with Clayton Tune as their backup QB?

Yikes....

^. Wow seems like he was a locker room problem there also.

Note: That is a sarcastic wow because we all knew he would be.

He'll get another chance somewhere once he realizes his career is on thin ice now. A strong willed coach might take a chance (otherwise it could end poorly yet again).

Will always be a stupid coach. But, if you can’t stick with Tomlin, Harbaugh or Ryan’s then you really killed most of your opportunities.

Possibly.

Steelers should change their WR scouting it seems. Everyone lauds then for their 2nd round WR selections, but how many of those have ended up distractions with their behavior?

Every last one of them. It seems finding the raw talent comes at a price. And with the latest Pickens he was a 1st round grade, just fell to them due to the injury concerns out of college.

...and he hasn't been without issue thus far either.

I really liked Roman Wilson going into the draft and wanted to see him get going, but his season turned into an injury red shirt basically.

Well the Ravens just claimed him again. But they will not play him, essentially did it so no other playoff team can sign him later and if he leaves via FA they have a chance for a 2026 compensatory pick. Pretty shrewd on their part.

Why would they still be able to get a comp pick? He's just a signing off the street. Waiving him should've canceled any comp consideration.

The absurdity of the system if he is on their roster until seasons end.

I doubt they would get a pick though as it would mean another team in free agency would actually have to give him a sizable contract.

It is mentioned here and the comments have a good conversation on it.

Didn't a post further up indicate that he can't be claimed to the roster until after the Super Bowl? Does that still count as on their roster at season's end?

That is correct since he was claimed off waivers, he can't join the team until after the Super Bowl but will be on the team prior to the official seasons end. It is an absurd role but that is the weird part of the compensation with the NFL. I highly doubt anyone will pay him, in free agency, so they won't get a pick.

The goal of the claim was more to prevent other teams from signing him after he clear waivers. More of an "F-U" to him and to keep any other possible opponents from utilizing him during the playoffs.

Bizarre and unnecessarily complicated lol. I would think the players union would be up in arms at this, but the NFLPA has very little power as we've seen repeatedly.

Boy I don't know. Historically the Steelers have been awesome at finding talent at WR throughout the draft. Probably more so than any other team. When they become head cases they just move on find another great receiver.

The principle here is that if he's on the roster when the the NFL year, (and his contract), ends - the team will be eligible for a compensatory pick if he signs elsewhere. If this holds up the Vikings are going to get a pick for Jones and the Ravens will be eligible for a pick for Johnson. I guess the winning move is to sign FAs in late February or early March that could potentially generate picks. Since the NFL hasn't officially disclosed what the compensatory pick formula is they could decide to change it.

Clearly players signed after the end of the regular season shouldn't qualify for picks, nor should players who are with a different team than the team that is responsible for current regular season salary guarantees, EG Russell Wilson and Dan Jones.
