4. Eli Manning - $110,528,074
5. Champ Bailey - $103,582,535
6. Philip Rivers - $101,835,000
7. Julius Peppers -$99,335,000
8. Carson Palmer - $98,869,742
9. Michael Vick - $92,169,571
10. Larry Fitzgerald - $85,532,500
11. Matt Hasselbeck -$84,205,000
12. Dwight Freeney - $82,235,000
13. Joe Thomas - $78,950,000
14. Mario Williams - $78,100,000
15. Jared Allen - $77,452,469
16. Andre Johnson - $76,349,174
17. Tony Gonzalez - $76,341,935
18. Ben Roethlisberger - $75,588,500
19. Calvin Johnson - $71,974,763
20. Brian Urlacher - $70,150,000

The incredible thing is that Vick has earned that much... and declared Bankruptcy. All the jokes about killing dogs aside, how the fuck do you burn through that much money?

I mean, MC Hammer had like an entourage of like 30 people to burn through 30 million, what the fuck did Vick spend that much money on?

Three, didn't he have to give much of that back? - I honestly don't remember, and I'm not in a Google mood.

Also, I'm not sure if those figures take into agent fees/taxes and what not. I strongly doubt it. That's not my area of expertise, though.

Oh you're right, the Falcons did sue him for his signing bonus. Which was about 20 million or so... I think that led to his bankruptcy. I think he is in the black again thanks to the big contract extension he recently got in Philly. I guess he really only burned through about 70 mil, rough guess, lol.. still a lot.. oh wait, 50 mil to include the signing bonus he had to return

this is why we need to lean..........defense! defense! defense!

Because of Aurrelious Benn? Seriously? He's been in the NFL for a few years. It isn't as if he's a new hot shot from Europe. This isn't hockey.

I know we have some money left and will probably bring someone else in but doesn't the lack of signing a corner or higher caliber of Safety than Dahl force us to stand pat where we are in the first couple of rounds in the draft? I know there has been a lot of talk of trading into next years draft and I'm sure we will with our middle and late round picks. But it seems like we are going to have keep at least our 1st and 2nds to draft quality players for our defensive back field and possibly our DLine.

It's amazing what a few halfway decent years at QB can do for your earnings if you time it right...

I like the idea of trying to trade one of our 3rd rounders for a 2nd rounder next year. We'll probably get a comp 3rd rounder in the 2014 draft (Goldson) making our regular 3rd round pick tradable and we'll also have a 2nd or 3rd from the Alex trade. That'll give us more ammo to do an identical trade up for the 2015 draft, which will allow the cycle to continue (as long as we can find trade partners of course). If we can keep accumulating draft picks through smart trades and FA comps we can practically ensure that we will always have extra high draft picks to work with. It's all about exploiting the desperate or win-now teams in these trades for future picks. You also have to consider all of our extra late round picks and turning those into future higher round picks year after year.

The comp pick system and focus on signing cut players in order to preserve future comp picks kind of reminds me of the A's during the glory days of the Moneyball era where they'd keep getting comp draft picks for All-Stars that would leave via free agency to the Yankees and other big spenders. Of course, like Moneyball it relies a lot on good scouting and smart FA signings.

-AC-5. Sedrick Ellis/ Glen Dorsey- Again, rotation and depth. Two huge bust's who could resurect their careers with a strong contribution and showing on an already stout defense

Sick- "I didn't know Sedrick Ellis was a FA. I don't think he brings much. Dorsey at least brings experience in a 3-4. I'd be open to signing Dorsey for cheap if RJF doesn't re-up."

-AC- Sedrick Ellis never playing in a 34 defense is what intrigues me about him, he might be servicable in that rotation...

Sick- Have to disagree about Ellis. I don't think he'd be any good in a 3-4 at all.

This was back in February ^

You've got to keep things in perspective AC. We were talking about a starting rotation in New Orleans. I maintain that Ellis would be a bad starter in a 3-4. That doesn't mean isn't possibly better than guys like Ian Williams or Dobbs. 2nd & 3rd stringers don't have to be stars.

Here's a name I didn't know was out there as a FA: Sedrick Ellis. I didn't know the Taints cut him. I wonder how much he'd command. Dorsey's gonna play in the middle; Ellis could be a guy to back up all 3 spots if he came on the cheap (kind of like I was saying about Allan Branch).

I'd still want the Niners to draft Hankins and / or Carradine, but he could be a nice, cheap pickup.

How am I taking it out of "perspective"? We discussed Ellis last month, and when I mentioned him as a rotational player in the 3-4 you pretty much said it was a bad idea "Have to disagree about Ellis. I don't think he'd be any good in a 3-4 at all". Fast forward to today and you said "Here's a name I didn't know was out there as a FA: Sedrick Ellis. I didn't know the Taints cut him." which you did know because we discussed it last month. Then you said "Ellis could be a guy to back up all 3 spots if he came on the cheap (kind of like I was saying about Allan Branch)."

I'm not sure what Williams or Dobbs has anything to do with it at all. When I mentioned both Dorsey and Ellis, I never mentioned them as starters let alone "stars". I mentioned them as rotational players to help the D-line. So from my "perspective" you said my idea was bad, then a month later mimic-ed my comments as your own. That is my "perspective"...

I must not have been clear. I'd be open to brinking in Ellis (for cheap) to be a guy who should only play if someone else gets hurt. I don't think he's starting material, and I don't even want him to be the first guy off the bench. This was the kind of role Dobbs & Ian Williams played last year.

The guy I'm hoping will be the first DE off the bench is Tank Carradine because all the DEs I liked have been signed (except Richard Seymour, and it looks pretty unrealistic to sign him because of how much money he wants). But if the Niners did sign Richard Seymour or draft Carradine (or Hankins), they would be the kind of players I'd want to rotate in on a regular basis.

[Brian Jennings career earnings]$11,597,000.

Wow. Good job to Jennings. I know some of the regulars of the\is board have referenced the idea of coaching up one's kid to be snapper, as a way for a kid to have a potentially long and head-safe NFL career one day, so I was curious about how Jennings has made out over the years. Even at a 50% tax rate (or so) for wealthy Californians, that aint so bad.

Thanks again, Pozz.
