Yes, I finished it but was so enthralled that all along the way I was doing my own research on individuals and events; mostly just using Wikipedia and Youtube. I didn't want it to end. I even bought a first edition on eBay in excellent condition (only $40). It was nice and heavy with solid materials. You should read it!

Oh, I forgot to mention that #3 on my list is to re-read The Far Pavilions by MM Kaye. It's been out of print for a very long time but I found one at a used paperback store and intend to use it for my first paperback restoration project as the spine is extremely curled.

Sounds likes something I'd get into. Let me know how it goes

I've been re-reading the d'Artagnan romances. First read them probably 25 years ago. Just finished the Three Musketeers and have begun 20 Years After.

Can anyone remember if we have a thread dedicated to history books or specifically WW II? Any of you guys read any of the books mentioned?

Don't think there's a thread. I haven't read any of the ones you mentioned but when i was younger I loved to read anything on WWII (or WWI, or the Revolution, or the Civil War).

The last one I read was Tuchmann's Guns of August about 5-6 years ago. More political than anything but was still very interesting. Really gets in to how inter-connected all those European countries were at the beginning of the 20th Century.

I think I put a hold on The Boys graphic novel a while ago, but have not seen it come in yet.

I finished The Wicked & The Divine last year, pretty cool series.

Anyone ever read the Saxon Stories (Last Kingdom) from Bernard Cornwell?

I'm on book 11 right now. It's as good as it was at book 1.

Also been reading a lot of Harlan Coben too.

yep, I've read them all. one of my favorite book series. I'm big fan of Cornwell. If you like the Saxon Stories, you should check out some of his other stuff as well. I particularly like the Grail Quest series and Agincourt (a stand-alone).


and if you find you like those, you should check out Sharon Kay Penman and her Plantagenet series.

If you're interested in life leading up to the Great War, read 1913 by Emmerson. Fascinating stuff. It was a better time to be alive.

I'm on book 11 right now. It's as good as it was at book 1.

It's amazing when you find an author who has a whole series and the quality never declines. I was very fortunate to find that with E. V. Thompson (British life books) and Peter Watt (a massive series on life in late 1800's Australia).

Yeah, I’ve had the Welsh series on my shelf for a while now. I really need to stop putting it off and get to it. There’s just so many books I enjoy reading...not enough time for them all.
