I guess I'm confused as to where you're going here?

My point wasn't any single season in particular, but rather, Trubisky's career W/L record being roughly .500 is due in large part to being 11-3 in '18, becuase the Bears had a truly elite defense. The year prior, they had a top 10 D and rookie Trubs was 4-8, the year after that elite D, 2019, they were still top 5 in D, Trubs was 8-7, then in '29 the D slacked off to top 15, Trubs was 6-8..
Thus..my original comment of : if Tomlins expects Trubs to lead the Steelers to the playoffs, he'd better have an 'OG Steel Curtain' type of defense for Trubs to lean on, cuz that's the only time he's better than a. 500 QB
Was loosely following.
Maybe i am confused?
Didnt think that was the point Will was pointing out.
Trubs may have been bad. But as we found out, Nagy was no guru either. He didnt develop Trubisky. And even after pining for Foles & Dalton, Nagy's offense got worse.

Maybe its selfish, but i hope Trubs does well, just to drive another nail in Nagy's ability to coach.

That and no third-and-longs.

Oh sure, I'm in no way blaming the Bears shortcoming entirely on Trubs, there was certainly more blame to go around. I'm only saying he is kinda similar to a Trent Dilfer, if not asked to do much more than 'not lose the game', he can maybe get the job done half the time. And that situation would require a defense like those '18 Bears, or those Ravens, Bucs, or an OG Steelers team

Well, maybe it seems like i am defending Trubisky? Maybe i am?
Dilfer was in the league some 6 years when he landed in Baltimore. In contrast, Trubisky came into the league with little experience under center. Nagy was supposed to be that guru, that coach, that teacher for Trubs.
Nagy implied that he had to dumb down the offense for Trubisky. Just didnt seem like the offense was being tailored for a raw QB.

To his credit, Trubs took most of the blame and criticism. Enter Foles & Dalton. Same results if not worse.

Really do hope with the right tutilage, Trubs can flourish.

Funny.
In Sleeper leagues, word of Adam Shaheen being traded... he was added in over 13K leagues.

Today? He failed his physical. Still a Fin.

SI's Albert Breer reports Ameer Abdullah is expected to play the "James White role" in new coach Josh McDaniels' offense.

Abdullah has been a "camp revelation" for the Raiders after he was one of the new regime's first signings in free agency. The 29-year-old former second-round pick has really found his place in the league as a pass-catching back. He caught 35 balls across 11 games for the Panthers last season with Christian McCaffrey hurt. Abdullah taking over the White role is bad news for Josh Jacobs and Kenyan Drake. Abdullah could bring back RB4 numbers in PPR-friendly fantasy formats after White averaged over four catches per game across his eight-year career under McDaniels in New England.

AMMMMMEEERRRRR!!!

Well, digging into this idiots summarization-
its not bad news for Jacobs or even Drake, as Jacobs hasn't been utilized in that role his entire career, and at some point, even though he's very well suited to do it, people need to stop expecting it, they, whether they is Gruden or McD, or whomever, just aren't going to use their lead every down back as that satellite specialist. Doesn't mean Jacobs won't get 2-4 catches every single game, it simply means his role is not at all likely to expand. However, with a more competent, modern offense, lead be an ultra efficient QB and big time playmakers, that rising tide floats all boats, add in Carr's aversion to throwing outside the numbers regardless of situation, and Jacobs will be just fine.
And its only bad news for Drake, if you foolishly expected him to do anything whatsoever, outside of giving Jacobs the occasional breather, to begin with. The person that it's terrible news for, is Zuess, whose path to NFL relevance is now pretty much stuck between performing on special teams, or straight up taking Drakes spot on the roster. (which is entirely possible, as Drake is a joke. Maybe they could trade him back to Arizona for a 2024 7th?)

49ers head coach Kyle Shanahan said Trey Sermon is "doing a great job" at training camp and "has improved on so many things from last year."

Shanahan in a radio interview also complimented big-back rookie Tyron Davis-Price, adding "he's still a rookie" who needs to learn the team's offense. The positive assessment of Sermon, who fell out of favor with the Niners' coaching staff in 2021, is notable after Shanahan in late July said Sermon is "as yolked up as he can be" headed into 2022. Any San Francisco running back who stays in the coaching staff's good graces could be in line for a decent workload, as fantasy managers have found out time and again in recent seasons. Sermon should not be written off as a late-round flier in redraft formats. Elijah Mitchell remains of the favorite to start 2022 as the team's primary ball carrier.

Well, like any news on the Rb's in SF, take it with a grain of salt...but it's better salt for Sermon than the typical news about the Niner's Rb's where Sermon is, more often than not, left out of the conversation entirely.

I think it'd be friggin hilarious if he steals the job coming out of camp.

Well I don't care about the situation, who he was playing against...nada....6 for 11 is not a good start

Sounds like Zach Wilson had a pretty bad injury, at least a bad scare. Hope the kid is ok.

"Falcons QB Desmond Ridder completed 10-of-22 passes for 103 yards and two touchdowns in his preseason debut against Detroit.
The Falcons started Marcus Mariota, who left after scoring a rushing TD on the first series. Ridder's debut couldn't have went better"

I want to find a replay and watch before final judgement, BUT...sub 50% completion percentage, I'm gonna say that it could've gone A LOT better.

I looked it over. A couple of plays where the falcons receivers lost 50/50 balls. A couple straight drops. Probably two turnover worthy passes. A couple of good scrambles.

Not enough info to make a bold claim but I'm not seeing anything to unseat Mariota

Agree.
But it sure complicates my possible "cut" decisions in D2. Especially with Mitchell hurt.

On a related note, was looking over some of the stat lines from week 1 preseason... a lot hyped RB were getting 6-12 carries and most had around 20 yards or so. Not good if you cant get yards against 2nd & 3rd string defenses.

That jumped out at me, too.

Chiefs are going to be interesting to follow as they have some hard choices to make at WR and RB this off season. I would not mind seeing RoJo cut as I have a wager involving him.

I love that little "trade candidate" toss in there at the end. Trade him for what?? To who? If he can't make a 53 in KC with nothing but a poser, rookies and roster fodder as competition, what kind of trade candidate is that?

Are they hard choices? If Pacheco looks good then it's an easy choice. If everyone sucks then it's a choice that lacks consequence.

Getting rid of Tyreek Hill was the tough choice. Orlando Brown is a tough choice.

WR and RB should play itself out. I wouldn't rule out Jet McKinnon getting cut instead of Rojo but all signs are pointing to Rojo. It looks like all of the doubters are right to doubt him

They dropped a few balls.

I was impressed while watching him play yesterday afternoon. (6pm start was annoying)

He really impressed with his feet. Think he had 60 yards rushing. Extended drives a couple times.

He was playing against Detroits 2nd and third team groups though. And those are pretty lousy.

Also threw a pick that got called back because Jarrad Davis is still shitty his second time around as a Lion.
