It's funny seeing a 68 year old coach do that. He's usually relatively quiet. His press conference was hilarious too.

And at his age it's amazing how well he actually handled it... Some coaches would have need assistance after a outburst like that.

this is exactly what I'm talking about. A 68 yr old man throws a temper tantrum and it's cool and funny? What it is is embarrassing for the school he represents and while I doubt it cost them the game, it sure didn't win it and is a pathetic outburst. When you lead any program you need to have the wherewithal to handle yourself.

Just watched the video and that's a tough call as an official. I've reffed a ton of games and the charge/block call is by far the most difficult to make. It did look like Hood's feet were moving but that call goes either way. If what's been said and there was a similar play earlier that was called a block, that's tough.

All you non ACC fans citing tyical ACC reffing can go screw yourselves. :finger:

Lol it is man. He never acts that way, he has built an elite program, 900+ wins! I am from Syracuse, am an Alum of SU and while it would have been better if he did not, I am not embarrassed nor is anyone who I know.

He's not going to do it in a tournament game so who cares. People take life so seriously, you ever make a mistake before?

I really do hate this lame cop out bullshit.

Yes, we've all made mistakes. Does that mean that everybody gets a free pass for everything they do? Why do you keep making excuses for inexcusable behavior? I'm not saying that everyone should be calling for JB's head, but the criticism of his behavior is fair. He cut he's team's chance of s win from unlikely to impossible. They may not have won before his blow up, but they definitely weren't going to win after it. Hall of Fame or not, he cost his team a chance at a win. That's on him.

Ok...You guys didn't like Coach Boeheim's behavior. I get it.

Why I make excuses is a look of the overall body of work of the man, the emotion of a very close game beginning to end that brought everyone participating the brink. A chance for SU to go up with 10 seconds left after fighting through loads of adversity. If removing emotion from critical situations while maintaining elite focus was easy, we'd all be successful coaches.

The statement of him cutting his team's chance of a win from unlikely to impossible....

Ok. :suds: For me debating that one is even less on the critical scale because we have an outcome that counts. It's in the books.

But for shits and grins, what are the odds for SU to win once the charge was called?

The right call is no whistle at all and SU ties the game with 10 seconds left. What are SU's odds of SU winning out that scenario?

I think the odds are pointing to a poor call costing SU the win. Not Coach JB. But again...this is like pissing on a fire for fuel. It just creates smoke.

Is that justification for Coach to run on the court and stick his finger in an officials face yelling bullshit and who knows what else. Nope.

If this was an annual event, maybe you would have reason to take SU fans to task. What I understand is this is his first ejection in 30 some years....pfft. I don't see this as an issue, nor do I see my indifference an issue. The overall of body of work by Coach is why I believe this is a non issue.

And I don't think Coach has received a free pass. In the age of instant media and the internet, sportshoopla isn't the only place this is being discussed.

I love what JB did. His team got "Duke'd." That ref should be fired. There should be an investigation.

Great post and if this was a problem with J.B. every other week then its an issue. He is a great coach and even great coaches lose there cool and that was the 1st time Ive seen him lose it since I can remember. It really is a non issue.

I've said a couple of times that's a 50/50 call. Anyone seeing this for the first time....welcome to the game of bball.

I would have much rathered a no call, but once the whistle is blown, that one is a 50/50 call.

And I don't care about the previous call either. This was a completely different play. Officials are not thinking about the one they called earlier on white, so next time it's on blue. At the time the official makes the call, it is what he saw. Yes, we all want consistancy, but we are not all at the same angle so we end up with differing opinions. Officials don't have replays in this case so you end up with what the guy saw.

And on the play we are talking about....even with replay, I still don't know if it's really a charge or a block. But the whistle was blown...so he has to make a call. What he saw, he saw.

Officiating's tuff....I wouldn't want the guy fired. I wouldn't want his job either. But I can uderstand people getting into the game.

BTW...that was a good game with UofL Saturday. I hate the hand checking that is being called right now. Cause it gets down right beastly under the basket, but then call a hand check...I hate it. But that was game for men.

UC plays hard. A team better eat their weaties before they go there.

Yeah, that's why I was saying in the game thread that some fans are gonna be in for a rude awakening when they face UC. They're gonna be used to their team scoring 80 and when they only score 55 they're gonna be like "WTF?"

Sean Kilpatrick almost won that game single handedly. The ENTIRE UC TEAM other than Kilpatrick had 7 fg's. We lost by 1.

Don't tell me you can't win without an offense (I'm talking to you Syracuse fans!)

don't feel like reading the whole thread...but I will say this, Boeheim is an idiot. Ignoring whether that was a good or bad call, its a 2 point game with 10 seconds left, you're still in the game...Boeheim's little tantrum took any chance that Syracuse had left and threw it out the window.

:lame:It's a two point game with Duke going to the line for a 1 and 1. Duke hasn't missed a free throw in 40 years. SU down 4 with 10 seconds remaining is not a chance.

I'm not saying that JB should be fired, or even reprimanded beyond the ejection. I don't think it is an indictment on him personally, or his career as a whole. I don't think it's going to keep him out of the HoF or anything like that. But it was a dumb thing to do on his part, and whether he has won 900+ games or 9000+ games, he isn't beyond reproach.

It's one thing if you want to stick up for JB. He's "your guy" I get that. But don't act as if other people are out of line for criticizing the man. Yeah, we all make mistakes, and typically we all get criticized for them. That's the way the world works. JB is no exception.

All I'm saying is that there's a double standard. A player loses his cool in a game and he gets ripped by everyone. An old man with years of experience does it and it's "funny" and "cool". Not just saying JB. The HC for my team did it this year too and was defended to the teeth. Coaches know better and need to keep their composure more than what we expect from the "kids".

Hood was 0-3 for the game from the stripe. Just sayin.

If he misses the front end, you need to get a rebound and make a shot in 10 seconds. Not an easy feat to be sure, but let's not act like it's impossible. It happens all the time.
