It's really too bad for Fleming. I think he had a chance to contribute if he'd stayed healthy. Just awful luck.

Yet another talented 49er linebacker who caught on because of injury.

Darius Flemming, Scott McKillop, Jay Moore, Saleem Rasheed
... Nick Moody?

And my personal favourite: Alex Lincoln. Never played a single down due to injury, but SI reported that he looked good as a rookie. Remember that one imac?

Makes sense because by my math we were three over the roster limit with our UDFA signings.......

I was at camp the day McKillop tore his ACL. Knew it as soon as I saw it. I really liked him as a later-round pick. Thought he'd provide great depth and maybe develop into a starter. Ultimately kind of glad he got injured, though, as his development might have prevented us from taking Bowman. Hate to say that...

I always liked McKillop, but I was always pissed the Niners didn't take Jasper Brinkley ahead of him (who went 3 picks later). Guess I was right because of injury; guess we'll never know who was right based on talent. :(

Are you in the media Crimson? Or were you just there as a fan?

Just there as a fan. I was able to get down for one of the open days a few years in a row. Haven't made it back the past couple, though.

At this point, I think it's easier to project a 53-man roster than to list all the cuts. The lists are about the same length, and the roster is at least comprised primarily of names we know.

QB - Kaepernick/Gabbert
RB - Gore/Hyde/Lattimore/Hunter
FB - Miller
WR - Crabtee/Johnson/Boldin/Patton/Ellington/*Osgood
TE - Davis/McDonald/Celek
LT - Staley/J.Martin
LG - Iupati
C - Kilgore/M.Martin
RG - Boone/Looney
RT - Davis

DT - J.Smith/TJE
NT - I.Williams/Dorsey/Dial
DT - McDonald/Carradine
OLB - Smith/Lemonier
ILB - Willis/Wilhoite
ILB - Borland/Moody
OLB - Brooks/Lynch/Skuta
CB - Brock/Culliver/Ward/Johnson/Acker/Cox
S - Reid/Bethae/Ventrone/Spilman

K - Dawson
P - Lee
LS - McDermott

PUP/IR - Thomas OG, Reasner CB, Millard FB, Bowman ILB, Breslin OLB

That's about what I've got. I could see Dahl sticking, but he'll have to earn it on STs.

This seems like a realistic outcome barring unforeseen injuries.....

The most interesting roster battle will definitely be on the DL.

This.

Also interested in the db battles. Quite honestly every position has an intriguing battle whether for depth or starter. This will be one fun ass training camp.

You think? That's actually one of the spots where it's pretty easy to pick who makes the roster. Lynch is the big question right now (if we're considering him DL). Gotta figure J. Smith, McDonald, Dorsey, Williams, and Carradine are effectively stone-cold locks. Jerod-Eddie is also very likely to make the squad. The main question is if we keep Dial or someone else as a seventh.

I think the competition could be incredibly intense in the defensive backfield - S and CB - and at ILB. Not to mention the battle for playing time at WR and RB.

List looks good. But I don't think Moody and either Ventrone/Spillman make it. There's only so many spots that are just for ST specialists. Osgood/Skuta are the locks for that. I think Hunter is on the bubble if Lattimore is healthy unless Hunter can take Dixon's role in ST.

I don't know. Ventrone and Spillman are both very good on STs. Probably our two best STs players, frankly. Osgood had some big plays, but Ventrone and Spillman were constants.

That's why I know one of them stays. Niners could have both on there I just feel like it's a waste of a roster spot to have 4 ST specialists. I definitely don't think Moody makes it. Borland takes his ST spot and is the much better LB.

Moody seems like the guy who will have the toughest time making it. I could definitely see one of Spillman/Ventrone going, but I wouldn't be shocked if they stick. It depends what guys like Ward and the rookie CBs bring to the table on STs. Or say Chris Cook.

Spillman and Bubba makes the team. We messed with the STs and it killed us doubt we do that again. I think Osgood probably makes it but Skov/Moody could take his spot.

I can damn near guarantee Skov makes the final roster. He's the type of player this coaching staff will absolutely fall in love with, kinda like Borland. Sucks for Moody, cause I believe he gets traded for a 7th by the end of camp, just like we did with Cam Johnson.
