Might have already been discussed but would signing Thomas essentially mean no contract for one of zeke, dak, or cooper? My thoughts are if thats the case, zeke ends up being the odd man out and he's the most valuable of three IMO.

Sounds like we might be out on Thomas reguardless but if not, could it happen? Still probably not a good idea to spend a ton on those 4. Cowboys would be awesome if the nfl would do away with the cap.

I'm sure I'll get attacked for this but why don't the Cowboys go all out on acquiring Nick Foles in free agency and then trading Dak to some gullible team.

I imagine Foles might cost more and Daks dirt cheap right now. I'd rather them do something even less realistic and find a way to trade for Mayfield. It's the Brown's I wouldn't put it past them.

Seriously though, Daks the one with the most to prove out of that group. I'd give him one more season before any extension talks.

It will be harder but not impossible. IMO, the key to signing Thomas or a big FA this year without a big cap impact down the road was front loading it and using the cap space this year and then unlike how we normally do it, the backend years are cheaper when we have other guys due to be paid.

That would have been a lot easier without Witten and Hurns. But, after this year Witten, Lee (probably) and Hurns all probably come off the books so that right there covers one of the big contracts going forward. We now lose that $10M plus of year one cap space that was key to signing someone IMO. Now in order to sign our own and also add a guy like Earl others need to go in addition to those 3 - one or both of our OTs, Crawford, etc. But then you need to replace those guys too. So IMO letting Hurns go and not resigning Witten and instead signing a guy like ET was the way to go. Let's see how we play it and if we still bring in a big $ FA this year.

I like the idea of front loading contracts this year. If the team is willing have DLaw play on the tag front load his contract and get him signed.

7 year deal

110M, 52 Guaranteed. (25M Signing Bonus + 1st 3 years (27M))

Salary per year
1. 11M
2. 8M
3. 8M
4. 8M
5. 10M
6 and 7. 20M

His 3 year average would be 17.3M and his 5 years average would be 17.

I'm not sure all of your numbers match up, but there is absolutely no chance D Law signs a $7 year $110M contract.
I also don't think he will sign one that pays him an average of $17.

love DLaw but he's outta his mind with his injury history if he thinks he deserves Mack money.

Numbers match up, but your most likely right about him not signing for 17 a year, but its the 1st offer I'd give, to see how close we are. In most cases it's about guaranteed money so the bonus could be bumped up to 30M giving him 57M guaranteed. They can also guarantee a small portion of year 6 and 7 (5M each) if needed, bringing the guaranteed up to 67M. I wouldn't do this because an injury would really hurt the future cap. If I were to guarantee the year 6 and 7, 5M I'd have it in the contract the guarantee is there if DLaw is in the roster opening roster of year #5 (2023).

Love his heart and ability. This will pay him for his leadership and coaching up the young LB'ers while he's injured and stands on the sidelines and claps with JG. This was a restructure that had to be made for him to stay IMO

If you look around the league, I think there is a little collusion going on, and it's a good thing. Lots of aging vets hittingg the market, not a lot of crazy contracts being offered. A few teams are still bat shit crazy, but for the most part, if you are a vet FA, and you have a fair contract on the board, you might want to take it. The NFL has seen the list of QB's that are $30 million against the cap with losing records. They've also seen guys get big money and released the next year. There's a lot of talent on the market

I think your 5 year total only adds up to $14M per, not $17M
D Law knows his market

Let's see what happens in the first couple of days of free agency. That's when the silly money usually gets handed out

I can’t think of Sean Lee without this... says more about him than any words can.

I never saw that. That was great and absolutely sums up Sean Lee. I honestly feel if his body didn't fail him over and over again that he would have gone down as an All Time great and a HOF'er and this team would have had a lot more success. I want so bad for the Cowboys to play him at SAM this year and get him in the starting lineup. When he gets hurt, he gets hurt, but get this guy on the field. The defenses numbers with vs without him have been utterly astonishing throughout his career.

Dallas doesn't want Thomas. Hmm. As his number of potential landing spots continue to shrink, he's probably contemplating a big public apology to Seattle. I hope the Seahawks don't get sucked in. The Legion of Boom era is over.
I wouldn't put too much into this. Jerry often says one thing then does the other.

If Dallas can get DLaw under contract and ET is still available things could get interesting

I'd rule out the Cowboys acquiring Thomas. The guy will be 30 and has suffered two broken legs. Why invest in a guy whose best days are behind him?
