Cutting Wentz at the start of the league year would cost the team $59 million in dead money against the salary cap and would actually cost the Eagles $25 million in additional cap space, making this an inconceivably bad option.
For reference, overthecap.com is projecting next year’s salary cap to be around $176 million, which is an 11 percent decrease from this year because of revenue loss due to the global pandemic. There’s no way the Eagles, who are projected to be around $70 million over the projected cap already, can afford to flat-out cut Wentz, so we can get that out of the way now.
Also important: Wentz has a $10 million roster bonus due on the third day of the league year, which should be March 20 if the rest of this season goes off without a hitch. The Eagles would incur a $74 million dead-money charge against the cap if they cut him after that bonus.

I think it is more likely that they fire Doug and hire a new HC to work with Wentz. I think above all else they should fire Roseman and then let the new GM make the rest of the decisions.

It looks like the team would take on a 4yr @ $98.4mil. So on average 24.6 and after 2yrs at 47.4 if Wentz doesn't improve, they can cut him with out a cap hit.

Someone that still has some faith in him could pull the trigger for 24+ mil for a starter. but I still cant see how the eagles could afford to move him either way.

A cut would cost Philly 59+mil for 2021 but off the books after that but in order to trade him they would have to move some money into signing bonuses. They'd still get hit with dead cap but cut in half from that 59+mil.

So minimum if they can find a trade partner is they eat $30 mil? And likely have to sweeten the pot for the other team, I would think. At this point, is Wentz even worth a 3rd rounder?
