UCLA had won the majority of PAC South Championships with overall records like 7-5 and even a 5-7 team once....UCLA hasn't done squat with winning the South.
Meh that's the last no one remembers history. USC is the hottest team in the pack over the last 2 months natty on a platter next season.

Recruiting is a huge part of the point. You continually bring in top level talent and you will continually win many games.

Look at Butch Davis and Miami...He recruited the talent, and Larry Coker was winning with that talent. Talen goes a long way.

Yeah, you'll win 8, 9, 10 games. However you won't be Top Tier. You won't be elite. 2nd or 3rd tier at best.

Because USC has no room for them. It called 4 and 5 star recruiting. We have so many top qbs some transfer just to play
Helton doing a great job with all these top recruits.

Hell so did Kiffin and Suekisian.

still better than 5-7.

And our coach is young to be able to grow, already has a natty appearance and a conference title.

He ain't 62 and well past his prime.

the difference between your comparison of Osborne to Solich and Kelly to Helfrich.

Helfrich has continued to recruit very well, in fact Oregon could land a top 15 class this year. Helfrich is on par and sometimes does better in his recruiting classes than Kelly did.

Correct me if I am wrong, but I can't imagine Nebraska had the recruiting classes in the early 00's like Oregon is getting now.
Bullshit, you're going on year 2 of nearing to poach an FCS quaterback. Either they're not recruiting well, or they can't develop a QB, or both...

What does that have to do with having to get outside help at the position going on 2 years? I remember you being excited about Lockie and Mahalak too...

In this scenario Oregon still has no natty. And trend of using fcs teams to recruit qbs isn't exactly something to brag about. IMO it's a bad sign of the future of Oregon football. With the recent success you would think they could draw some 4 to 5 star prospects into their system. Which raises the question. Do these kids not consider Oregon a legit contender, is it hellfire have,is it an academic thing or just bad recruiting? SC just had max brown leave for playing time

This has more to do with Pillows Pellum than anything else.

Allioti retired after the 2013 season and Helfich thought that promoting from within was a good idea, which it wasn't.
Looky here. I'm telling you Oregon is 'trending down'.

In 2012 (Kelly's last season) Oregon's defense gave up 34 pts, and 51 pts to go (12-1). Just Two games of 30 pts or more.

In 2013 Oregon's defense gave up 38 pts, 45 pts, and 35 pts. to go (11-2). Three games of 30 pts or more.
In 2014 Oregon's defense gave up 31 pts, 31 pts, 30 pts, 41 pts, and 42 pts to go (13-2). Five games of 30 pts or more.

In 2015 Oregon's defense has given up 42 pts, 62 pts, 45 pts, 55 pts, and 42 points. (9-3). Five games of 40 pts or more.

That is trending down.

The gifts that were handed to Helfrich are gone. Kelly's recruiting is gone. Kelly's player development is gone, Kelly's attention to detail is gone. The upper echelons of the coaching staff have turned over. They are gone.

In Scenario Village, this is the equivalent of a Tom Osborne to Frank Solich handover. The only difference is Kelly never won a Natty.
The successor, who inherits a well put together program, runs the same system, looks good for a couple years, but you can see the bleed in fundamentals and discipline.

This is nothing new. I warned about what appeared to be a down trend last summer. I was SPOT ON.
Oregon vs Nebraska 2016 and 2017 | Page 18 | SportsHoopla Sports Forums

Now that another major piece of the Kelly equation (Scott Frost) has moved on from the offensive side of the ball, I can see the down trend continuing. We shall see if I am right again.

And how does this impact a 4 star recruit when the team keeps deciding to go with transfers. I can see this trend having an adverse effect on future recruiting. And damaging the kids they have recruited. Confidence is one of the biggest keys for a successful qb. Glad to have you aboard btw we're going with the kid that wants to transfer from McNese state.......

I don't feel all warm and cozy about Riley. However he changed systems on both side of the ball. He didn't inherit a system like Helfrich did. It's hard to judge too much in his 1st season.

You're still missing the point. Oregon's days of Top 5 finishes are gone with Chip Kelly. They are now just a 2nd or 3rd tier program.

Another thing I can say regarding the (5-7) of Nebraska compared to the (9-3) Oregon season.......

Nebraska beat Michigan St who is going to the CFB Play-off. Oregon lost to them.

Translation: Helfrich is not very good at evaluating defensive coordinators.

Has Pellum been replaced?
Wilcox is available

I had an avi bet with @TheDayMan this year and was kind. He is a good dude and just returning the favor. But I'm all in on letting you update it periodically.:D
Just gotta mess with OD a little bit, I'll lay off him after bowl season. But was a 6 month bet, afterall, and he was kind of a pain in the ass about it. He needs to suffer a little...
