Isn’t Beria a decent-ish prospect? At least we fill an organizational need of middling infielder, though.
Berroa is 22 years old and made 4 starts for Eugene. In those 4 starts, he struck out 16 batters in 13.1 innings pitched, walked 6 and gave up a mere 5 hits and 1 run.
Walton, meanwhile, is a 28 year old middle infielder (of course!) who has slashed .196/.260/.315 in 92 ABs across 4 big league seasons. The up side is that he's hit .302/.391/.518 in 334 ABs across 2 AAA seasons.
My mind is blown on the exchange. Sure, Walton finds an FZ fetish. Older 20 something middle infielder who hasn't done a thing in the big leagues but could still has some potential. But trading off a young pitcher off to a hot start?!?! Has FZ gone mad?

Hasnt done Jack in the bigs, but his minor league numbers look very nice.
But are those numbers, and his age, worth a 22 year old decent pitching prospect? Knee jerk says no but, as you all point out so often, FZ may know more than we do. However, this is also FZ's weakness - middle infielders.

Beria is 22. That means he has to stay in the oven for another 3 years at least before you even check his temp to gauge how much longer he needs to cook.

I could see him in the big leagues as quickly as 2 years from now. He could earn a promotion to AA sometime midseason and, if he does well to start 2023 in AA, could be in AAA by the end of that year. Depending on his performance and who is blocking him, 2024 isn't unreasonable a possibility for a chance at least in the bullpen.
Of course, he could wither in the next month, get stuck in high A ball and never even see AAA.

Not like we all thought Tyler Herb was the next Bumgarner or anything, but he was somewhat highly viewed (as a potential 4/5 starter or swing man). We traded him to Baltimore for an older OF “prospect” who had never really shown anything and wasn’t kicking in any doors.

Herb is still waiting for his Cuppo and is now in his 3rd organization since leaving us. The outfielder is now one of our few non-platoon starters.

I kinda like Walton’s minor league numbers, but I am, at the end of the day, completely clueless about his outlook. Berroa has been noticed by our prospect hounds, but also, little is actually known outside of his name.

I will trust FZ. Until the trade proves to be a bad one, in which case I will throw him under the bus and claim I knew better all along.

Well, I'm going to claim to know better now and then, if the trade works out poorly for the Mariners (or well for the Giants), claim that I trusted FZ all along. It should be pointed out that the shelf life on these middle infielders he acquires is fairly short. If the Mariners get one decent half season out of Berroa, it will likely be a poor trade for the Giants.
There are differences between Berroa and Herb. Herb never showed much prior to that one season in Richmond and was already scuffling when he was shipped to the Orioles (I'm actually surprised he's still in organized baseball). He was also a bit of an older prospect. At the time of the trade, I don't think Herb was as highly valued at that time as Berroa is now.

Looks like Seth Corry is done for the year, with surgery on his throwing shoulder.

Poor bastard can't catch a health break.

Remember when he was a top 10 Giants prospect?

Yeah, that was cool.

Prospects are so fragile. Hope he is healthy in 2023 and starts to live up to his potential.

Giants recently signed a 27 year old pitcher out of indy ball and assigned him to San Jose.
Apparently he played a French league. No idea that France had organized baseball.

Take one: He's 6' 5", so maybe he's been signed for the Giants' hoops team in the off season.

Take two: maybe they want to convert him to a middle infielder

And MAYBE he could be the one to replace Cobb, referencing a convo I had with @LHG in another thread (though I do not think we are anywhere near bailing on Cobb yet).
