He released a statement proclaiming innocence, seems sincere.

I'll be honest sometimes with these kids they really don't know what they are given. Some close friend or family member gives them something that's banned and they don't know it (or they do, sometimes).

Still sucks.

Jacob Heyward: .340/.477/.620 with 4 homers so far. His 22% walk rate really stands out. He's always been willing to take a walk, but this really is really impressive. He's always been a corner guy, but he's played some CF. He's also always had some decent thunder in his bat. High walk rate, OF versatility, power... sounds like a Zaidi kind of guy (not saying that Zaidi found him but a guy that he tends to like).

And you forgot to mention he is doing this at AA, where star hitters (like Heath Quinn so far) go to die (in terms of MLB aspirations).

Monday, 5/6

The RiverCats are hitting bombs tonight.

Mac has three (7&8&9)

Yaz has one (7)

Slater has two (4&5)

Van Horn has one (1)

RC's lead 11-6 in the 8th, and looking for more.

The furthest ball hit in the statcast era is 504, which was Gincarlo Stanton. Now I'm not going to trust AAA completely on this but god damn 511 is insane

Too bad none of these guys can play the infield because it would be really nice to punt Solarte for one of them. I really don't know who they could get rid of at this point.

Austin has been meh, but meh on this team puts you in the top-5 hitters. Gerber just got here. Duggar is finally getting hot, and I'd really not like to send a young guy down for another young guy.

I think Mac is like a shark smelling blood in the water. He keeps mashing, he is forcing his way up. Just as FZ has been wrong on a few guys he liked, he may well be wrong on a few guys he didn't like. I am rooting for Mac.

He had 12 total bases tonight, went 3 for 3, three homers, 5 RBI, Sac Fly. And a walk. He is now hitting .378

Slater is up to .309, and he can play some infield.

After a slow start, Yaz Jr is up to .266, and he has been raking lately.

Kuip just let it slip that Solarte is gone. He accidentally just broke news, it seems...

You all think the big league club is struggling, if you don't want to get more depressed, skip past this post.

The San Jose Giants look awful right now! Currently, their best hitter is Joey Bart's replacement - Chris Corbett. So how is he doing, you may ask. Well, not that great - .258/.343/.323 in 31 ABs. Not too bad for a "have mask, will travel" guy but not for the team's best hitter. His platoon partner, Bart's former backup, is close behind him. John Riley's .217/.352/.292 slash adds up to a tie for 2nd best OPS with Kyle McPherson. Bryce Johnson and Logan Baldwin are the only other two batters registering above .575 OPS.
The starting rotation isn't fairing much better. Aaron Phillips, Garrett Cave and Matt Frisbee are all getting lit up. John Gavin looks better but he's been moved to the bullpen (with his 1.88 WHIP). DJ Myers is now in the rotation and he doesn't look good either. Only Trenton Toplikar looks decent (3.75 ERA, 1.25 WHIP, 24 Ks in 24 innings). The two guys who've look good have either been promoted (Caleb Baragar) or place on the il (Jose Marte).
As for the bullpen, things are looking better. Frank Rubio has a 0.42 ERA, 0.84 WHIP and 26 Ks in 21.3 innings. Raffi Vizcaino (1.69 ERA in 11 games) and Jandel Gustave (0.00 in 3 games) have looked good too. There's been another 5 relievers have have pitched well but who are not currently on the roster. They seem to shuffle guys in for a game or two and then "assign them to another level". But the bullpen has some major warts - Camilo Doval sports a 1.82 WHIP and 6.46 ERA (but 22 Ks in 15.3 innings). Trevor Horn posted a 5.02 ERA and 1.74 WHIP before getting reassigned. Peter Lanoo recently got added to the roster and has been knocked around in 2 games. Carlos Sano, Olbis Parra and John Russell (before going to the il) all have been poor too. Yet they, for some reason, sent JJ Santa Cruz down to Augusta after pitching in 10 games and posting a 3.32 ERA and 1.26 WHIP. Can't have an undrafted guy showing up two-thirds of the pitching staff. That demotion will show him!

Vizciano and Gustave have moved on to AA and AAA, respectively.

There's some hope at least for Doval. He's straight nasty if you haven't seen him. He's wildly inconsistent with his arm slot but if he can harness that he's definitely an elite bully arm.

I forgot to mention that Vizcaino and Gustave had been promoted. I assume that Gustave was coming back from an early season injury as I was surprised that (A) he wasn't on a roster in April and (B) when he did get assigned it was initially with San Jose.
