The Fall League championship is tomorrow, and the Scorpions are not in it.

Joey Bart (will be 23 in December) hit .333 in 10 games, with a double, 4 homers, and 10 RBI. He had 9 walks and 7 K's. He was lighting it up until he broke his thumb (HBP)

Jalen Miller (will be 23 in December) hit a mere .188 with 1 double, one homer, 1 RBI, 1 walk and 14 K in 32 at bats.

Heliot Ramos (20) hit .185 with 2 doubles, one homer, 6 RBI, 5 walks and 23 K in 65 at bats.

Jacob Heyward (24) hit .184 with 4 doubles, one triple, one homer, 4 RBI, 6 walks and 18 K in 38 at bats.

Ricardo Genoves (20) was 1-14 as a last minute replacement for Bart. He had one double, one RBI, no walks and 8 K's

On the pitching side:

Frank Rubio (24) had a 1.64 ERA (0.91 WHIP) 11 IP, 10 H, 2 ER, no walks and 9 K's

Bryce Tucker (23 in December) had a 3.00 ERA (1.56 WHIP) 9 IP, 8 H, 3 ER, 6 walks and 14 K's

Tristan Beck (23) had a 3.63 ERA (1.39 WHIP) 22.1 IP (6 starts) , 24 H, 9 ER, 7 walks and 23 K's (his last start was terrible)

Tyler Schimpf (24) had a 5.40 ERA (1.70 WHIP) 10 IP (1 start) , 9 H, 10 R (6 ER), 8 walks and 10 K's

So the only bright spots were Bart and Rubio . . . and maybe Beck.

Yes. Bart had a short stay in the AFL, but was tremendous. Rubio did better than expected. And Beck proved to be pretty decent as a starter. Innings were limited for starters in the AFL usually, and he went no more than 4 innings in any start. His last start really inflated his numbers, he got bombed.

The Giants picked up utility man Bryan Torres in the minor-league portion of the draft. Torres, 22, is a native of Puerto Rico who has spent the past five seasons in the Brewers organization. He’s never played above the Rookie-ball level. In 2019, he appeared in 67 games for the Rocky Mountain Vibes of the Pioneer League. He hit .283/.373/.356. Torres began his career as a catcher and has played every position but shortstop and pitcher. He has a strong arm and above-average speed, having stolen 21 bases in 2019.

On a more serious note, I don't get it. Sure, he's young, but is this just a depth move? (depth in the "we need a catcher in San Jose or Augusta" sense). He hits for average and isn't allergic to taking a walk, but he has no power and he's only played in rookie leagues.

Oh, and baseball-reference.com doesn't show him playing RF or CF, just LF (only 10 games/3 starts). He appears to really be a catcher/corner IF (C/1B/3B). A util player for sure, but 3 positions.

You don’t get it? He is a 1 in a thousand chance prospect at best. More likely org depth. Kids taken in this part of the rule v rarely if 3ver do ANYTHING.

If this kid develops some pop (don't know if he's filled out yet) and keeps some speed and patience, he may become an intriguing fringe prospect.
