Ray Black. Yes, his ERA is bloated but if you look at the numbers, when he gives up runs, he gives them up in bunches. 3+ runs in 3 outings, 1 run in 2 outings and 0 runs in 11 outings. Guys is still missing bats (16 K/9) and batters are only hitting .196 off him. He definitely needs to cut the walks, but his ERA is misleading. 3 awful outings (11 runs in 1.2 IP) have destroyed his ERA.

What I wanted to highlight though: he pitched consecutive days for the first time in his career. Ever. His career to this point was summed up by injuries, and the Giants have held him back. I'll be really curious to see how he responds. Hopefully well.

I think that shows he's still got kinks to work out before he moves up to AAA, let alone gets a shot with the big club. The Eastern League, typically, can be more forgiving than the PCL. Yeah it tells me in those blow up outings that he's just completely lost his mechanics/release point/whatever and just melts down. And that has been something he's been know for. With him though it seems like he's had endless boxes to check off to this point, so the fact that he's moving in a direction where he can check off some big ones is welcome. Baby steps.

Oh I agree. Considering where he's come from, but he hardly looks like a sure thing. I do hope he gets better and kicks butt in San Francisco soon.

"Chris Shaw homered twice and drove in four runs to lead the San Jose Giants to a 6-1 victory over the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes this afternoon at LoanMart Field. Brandon Bednar also went deep as the Giants (25-16) won for the fifth time in their last six games.

Shaw hit an inside-the-park home run in the second inning before blasting a three-run homer over the center field fence in the top of the fourth. Shaw's first homer, the inside-the-parker, was extremely fluky. Scott-Van-Slyke, rehabbing for the Dodgers, thought the ball should have been "out of play", but Shaw kept running. Umpire didn't say otherwise, and I guess Slyke just assumed it was dead. Oh well, counts just the same.

A lot of good looks here.

Jarrett Parker has raised his average from .219 on May 14th to .281 today. The Giants would probably prefer to call up a right-handed bat (Mac), but Parker is on one right now, so he might be the guy.

Good to see Gregorio back after missing a start. Not as sharp as usual, but did rack up the K's.

Crick posted a respectable line that looks extraordinary given his circumstances. Last 2 starts, WHIP right around 1. Progress.

San Jose is really dominating the league right now, and those top 3 names are why. I think there's a good shot all 3 make it to Richmond this year. 3 gems from the 2015 draft.

I want to see Bickford in San Jose. Now.

There are three names in the Richmond bullpen that I'm surprised are doing so horribly: Ray Black, Daniel Slania and Jacob Smith. I figured they'd have the EL for lunch and then struggle a bit in the PCL. I get it that one may struggle, but all three?

Black actually isn't doing that bad. He just had 3 HORRID outings.

You want your relievers to not have that many horrible outings this early in the season. If he can keep from having any more, then I'll grant that his season is decent. I'd want to see what he can do the next month before I say its not horrible.
