Doing a quick perusal of the minor league rosters…

San Jose - dull dull dull. The only reason to pay attention to this club is Eldridge. Though, granted, that may be a legit reason to pay attention. Bonus nod to the coaching staff, which features Travis Ishikawa and Dan Runzler.

Eugene - First, I still can’t get used to Eugene being a higher-level team than San Jose. But that said, this team, right now, has a bunch of “Last-Chance” kids. Will Bednar, Seth Corey, Garrett Frechette, Jairo Pomares and Matt Mikulski. Not that it is LITERALLY these kids’ last chances, but they are all “prospects” who have become too long in the tooth to be stuck at high A ball, and have been around too long without showing anything to the org. Seeing Arteaga on the minor league 60-day is disheartening.

Richmond - No OMG names on this roster this year. And Richmond tends to be the most interesting roster on the farm at this point in the season. Like Eugene, though, there are a lot of “shit or get off the pot” story lines here. Will Wilson, Hunter Bishop, Vaun Brown, Logan Wyatt. Probably the only real “breakout candidate” that I see right now is Hayden Birdsong, but pitching is a crowded field in the org right now.

Sacramento - for the first time that I can ever remember, the Giants AAA affiliate is the most interesting club to look at at this time of the year. Marco Luciano, Carson Whisenhunt, Mason Black, Casey Schmitt, David Villar, Luis Matos, Heliot Ramos. I mentioned elsewhere that the Giants are on the verge of a late-80s style youth movement, and this roster highlights that fact. I don’t know that I see many/any SUPERSTARS here, but I see a core that can be worked with.

It is interesting to see how poorly the 1st baseman grabs went from that draft Frechette was in. Logan Wyatt was in the same draft and he is struggling to hit at AA. Connor Cannon was the third 1st baseman drafted and the Giants released him this offseason, after picking him up after the Yankees released him and after subsequently missing the 2023 season due to injury. His main problem is not being able to play. He's missed a significant chunk of time due to injury (which really compounds the significance of not playing due to the pandemic).

San Jose (A) (0-2) lost 13-6, Eldridge 1-5, Cox 3-4, Foster 1-4 with an EWS, Rayo 3-5, Kane closed with 1.2 innings and 4 K's, too little, too late.

Ramos is slashing .318/.388/.705 (165 wRC+) with 4 home runs and 11 RBI in 49 plate appearances to start the year. Average EV is 93.2 MPH and he's showing some improvement in getting the ball in the air more consistently.

The <25% K% and the drop in GB% are incredibly encouraging from him. We’ll see if it’s sustainable but he could be taking a massive leap if he does sustain it.

I thought it was strange to move the High A league to the Pacific NW. That weather is perfect for short season A ball. But since there is no longer short season A ball, I still don't get it for the reasons you state. It is hard for your better A level players to develop if they are rained out 2-3 times a week!
