Andy Dalton is overpaid. Stafford is overpaid. Gerald McCoy is overpaid. 100% chance Suh becomes the highest paid DT ever, and quite possibly a higher contract than JJ Watt. That's how the NFL works. Like or hate it, the cap gets bigger each year and so do the player contracts.

Whatever he gets paid, some fans will say he was overpaid. But stop with the "as long as he isn't overpaid" nonsense. Dude is going to win the nfl lottery,

Had this talk w a family member yesterday. "I'd resign Suh but only if he takes less than McCoy."

Ok buddy. Have another drink.

They're all overpaid!

My boy Randy Phillips was overpaid in college.

Back the fuckin' truck up to Suh's house. Cut our second highest paid defensive player next year, Tully. and get Warren Buffet's rich old ass off the sidelines. Three things that need to happen during the offseason.

Its not about the Lions. Suh wants to be a brand and will use a larger market to do it.

I've had many issues over paying him. Does it weaken other aspects by less cap room? That is my biggest concern. He will get paid big money. By who is the question?

Biggest reason I want to keep him. Austin will not be here forever. His scheme seems to work with no names in key spots at times. Suh is a driving force, not the only force, but a huge one. Suh leaves and then Austin has any success next year without Suh. He is gone also to a HC gig. Then that defense is back to middle of the road IMO.

Suh will be a rich man regardless, but I have a feeling it's going to be in DET.

He wants a $100 mil contract.

The contending NFC teams...who can afford him...SEA has to pay RW...GB has a $100 mil QB...PHI, maybe...DAL has a $100 mil QB, AZ has a top rated DEF already.

Non contenders...ATL, $100 mil QB plus need to sign Julio...NO, $100 mil QB, CAR...need to sign Cam, plus good young DL...STL, good young DL.

At least in the NFC there are not many homes for Suh, imo...maybe an AFC team, but you can rule out the contending teams DEN/NE/PIT/BAL/CIN...all have $100 mil QBs. Plus CIN has to sign AJ Green.

If I had to guess I'd say Suh won't be here next year. And thats a mistake. The whole argument is nonsense to me. "You can't pay a DT that kind of money". Why the hell not? He's our most impactful player on a top defense. No doubt.

Fuck people who say "you can't overpay". Obviously he's not getting $20 mil a year, so 2 or 3 mil extra isn't going to hurt. He's about as safe a player there is to give a large contract to, IMO. Unless you think "he's a temper tantrum away from a year suspension". Which I don't. But the risk is low. He's young, dominant, doesnt get hurt, and will not get lazy like a Albert Haynesworth. Pay him!!!

Probably.

Giants
Jets
Redskins
Bears
Cowboys

One of those teams I bet.

I'm not all up on the exact numbers, but from what I do understand, it merits consideration. I think were paying him $22 mil this year, and the tag would be like $5 more? Not including the other cap hits.

In the end, I don't think I'd tag him because if he doesn't want to be here, than he won't. But Mayhew fucked it up from the start with all the restructures. Or else a tag would have been the obvious choice.

If all we had lose is Tulloch, Fairley, and Bush, and could Noy sign any impact free agents, and we had enough $ to sign our draft picks and keep Suh, I'd be all for it, even if its just next year, so I probably would tag him. Cuz fuck it, IMO were a contender how we are right now, and if we lose Suh that takes a major blow.

With the dead money I've read more than once that tagging him would result in like a $32 million cap number...

I heard 36, but 9 is against the cap even if he's not here.

Yes it is something in 30's.

The first year would have 9 million dead money added to it anyway. So still paying 25-26 million already anyway. What is another 6 mill?? :L
Then for no fucking reason whatsoever do NOT restructure his deal if the Lions are lucky enough to get him to resign.

Still have a 9 million dead money cap hit next year whether he signs or not. That is the part that chaps my ass about Mayhew. Pushed that much money back with no success to show for it during that year.

This is reason it makes no sense to tag him. That extra $$ gets a FA or two.

Feel free to make the case to me then. What 2 Free Agents do we have a realistic chance of signing this off season that will make as big of an impact as Suh? I'll give you time. Might take awhile.

Not saying that 22. I was also speaking of the extra money from a tag situation. Tagging him when he wants to leave doesn't asure a good season either, only for the fact he would still be playing contract in 2016. Now f you are speaking of the money from the tag. No GM should be a GM if he can not bring in two impact players for 36 million.
You do realize no matter how much pressure he brings. Guys behind him still have to cover and tackle?

To speak of just any FA having a impact. Many said same thing with CJ being out. Look what Tate brought to the offense in his absence. Sure as hell did not spend a lot there. It can happen 22. Seattle has no Suh. Top rated last two years. So to speak as if life ends with no Suh is pretty stupid on your part.

Excuse me 27 million not 36. As nine will be against cap anyway. Mayhew is a god to some here though.
