So the Cowboys are basically just trying to get a year of Dez for under $13 million before having to lock him up to a long-term deal at more money? That makes sense.

Still, though, Dez could conceivably force them to give him the longer deal now, even if they don't pay him any more in his first year than that. That seems to be what he is after here.
Dez is like any other player...al about the guaranteed dollars.
12.8 this year and maybe 14/15M next year is pay as you go with risk.
If I'm Dallas....35M guaranteed over 5 years is as high a I go and then it's up to Dez

If there's no deal by the 15th, sitting out games only hurts Dez in the pocketbook.
He is pretty stupid so maybe he does miss games. Either way if he misses training camp and doesn't get into football shape, he is just a pulled hammy waiting to happen.

As Ive said before this is just a tough situation. Dallas is put in a hard place because of the insane contracts given to Megatron and Fitz. Dez is very proud and has said he thinks he is better then Megatron. Im sure in Dez's mind he should get 115,000,000 cause 2 other top WR's did. I understand that. I also understand managements side in not wanting to give Dez that type of money and hand cuff themselves.

It will be interesting to see how this all plays out.

That's not my take actually.

Dez is using whatever leverage he can. Thing is, he really has little leverage once the 15th deadline passes. No new contract can be done until next year after that, so sitting out games in essence does nothing except hurt his pocketbook.

Dez has leverage. He hypothetically can tweet, "Pay me now or you wont see me til week 10". He gets credit for an entire season if he shows up for 6 games. He can get that money back when some team gives him $100,000,000.

Not saying he will do this but it is one strategy he could potentially use.

He's the best receiver in football right now.... Dallas is gonna have to pay the man... He's gonna use that leverage as much as he can ...

I get it. I was being sarcastic.... to an extent. Any player with half a brain or at least surrounded by smart people would never miss games in Bryant's situation.

The real issue is not being in football shape when the games start. You are at a much higher risk of injury.

zero leverage and the best wide receiver in football is debatable.

if it's about being the highest paid receiver, then Dallas is smart to part ways after this season

I'd really like to see what Dez could do in a pass first O. Putting up 16 TD's and 1350+ yards on a team that focused on the run is pretty amazing.

Saying, "See you week 10" is zero leverage?

Dez far out produced the rookie contract. Stevie is going to look like a fool when dez holds out. Better get him signed or come to an agreement before the deadline. Dez is the best red zone receiver in the red zone and it's not even close

Dez stands to make more money this season than he has in his previous seasons combined. 7.5M $$'s is a lot of money. Money that he'll never get back. That's not leverage...that's stupid

Yeah, it is probably stupid but he can probably make up for it when a team like the Raiders step in. What Im guessing is that Dez's circle is gassing him up saying, "You're a fucking beast. The Cowboys are nothing with out you. You're the best WR in the league. Now go get your Megatron money". This is purely speculative but Dez is a proud dude. He just doesnt seem like the type that is cool with getting manipulated.... whether its really manipulation or not.

What Dez and DT are wanting in a contract is just down right ridiculous. It came out today that DT at least is asking for more overall money than Calvin Johnson and is wanting more in overall guaranteed money which is $48 million. A team would be nuts to give a guy the top money like that when he isn't even top of his position. I'm guessing Dez's camp is asking something very similar.

Yet another reason why I am so freakin' happy the Cowboys jumped in front of the Ravens in 2010 to take this dude. Dez Bryant is just one constant migraine and will be his entire career. It will always be something.

There is less than 0% chance Dez misses a game check. He has cars and homes for all his friends. He spends like an idiot and has no savings. You think he is going to pass up $8.75M to sit out 10 games? No way. He doesn't even pass up a single game check.

What I hope Jerry reminds him is that if he doesn't get in gameshape during the preseason, then he is going to suffer on the field come regular season. Unless he wants to go into another contract negotiation after pulling hammy's and nagging injuries to go along with a down production year...he better show for workouts and get in shape.
