Looks like Mike Pelfrey is already in midseason form. He gave up 2 ER in 1.2 innings yesterday, and needed 51 pitches to record 5 outs.

Anibal Sanchez got bombed in his recent start, too. Neither guy is making a case to unseat Boyd in the #5 starter spot.

I don't worry about anyone in Spring Training nor do I get excited about anyone. Pelfrey and Sanchez I was worried about before Spring Training. The thing I would like to see is Victor Martinez's speed. Is he as slow as he was last year. I am hoping the speed picks up to poor!!

Agreed, it's very early and pitchers tend to be working on things and experimenting, even during games. Like you, few of us have any expectations of Pelfrey, and his two appearances in ST so far have done nothing to prove otherwise.

Any new names on the team this year. I had to go to Joliet, to clean up some affairs, and I couldn't get any WiFi.
Someone tell me the bullpen is going to be better.

The bullpen is going to be better. Lol

From what I've heard Jimenez won't be coming north. Not sure how the bullpen gets better without that happening. Iffys boy Stumpf might make the team. I guess he's young and hasn't proven he sucks.

Stumpf.....he will be ''breaking them off'' this season. (He is a Rule V pick....so what team will he be sent back too?)

3-9 so far this spring. I suspect the "Fire Ausmus" signs could show up early if this keeps up.

The '84 Tigers were something like 11-19 in ST. ST records mean squat. What you DO look at is how your projected 25 are progressing, especially pitchers. I don't expect much early, but over the last 2 weeks of ST games, you want to see some command.

With all the talk about CF this spring, the bullpen is still a much bigger concern. No significant new names in the 'pen. One has to hope that J. Wilson and Lowe will be better, that Rondon's limited 2016 success can happen over a full season, and that F-Rod has one more decent season in him. I'm not laying any money on that happening.

I don't care about records in Spring Training ... It's all about getting your players ready. The only choices this year are CF, Bullpen (see who is the most ready) and Machado and Moya. It looks like they are going to keep Jimenez in the minors are the start of the season. I predict he will be up before May (if he is pitching well). Pelfry, Sanchez and Lowe could get released if they don't get their acts together.

Hard to believe there is almost $30 million tied up in those three piles of crap this season. At least Sanchez gave us a few good years. Another poster child for not giving pitchers long-term contracts.

We will have to eat $5 million (buyout option) for 2018 on Sanchez, but nothing on the other two.

The one thing I will say the Tigers' 3-10 spring record points to: the second level of pitchers in this organization is really REALLY bad. The scrub pitchers used in the later innings are getting throttled.

Pitching is looking like trash in Spring training and K-Rod has an injury. Could be a great summer!

K-Rod had an apparent groin injury in the WBC, but now said to be just a cramp. Should be nothing serious.

I like Caldwell's chances over Ausmus atm.

Well, if the season started today, your center fielders would be JaCoby Jones and Mikie Mahtook...mainly because they are the only two viable candidates healthy enough to play. Tyler Collins' lat muscle issue flared up again, and Alex Pressley is dealing with elbow pain. Jones is actually hitting well in spring (.346 with 2 HR in 26 at-bats). I don't know what he's looked like defensively.

Brad Ausmus announced that Michael Fulmer will likely pitch 4th in the rotation to start the season -- not because he's the fourth-best pitcher, but because he's had a minor ankle injury and they want to give him a few extra days of rest. This means Fulmer would start the Tigers' home opener.

I think Fulmer should stay as the 4.

Norris and Boyd shouldn't be back to back imo. And I think Norris is better in the first place.

I'm still holding out hope they go with Gose. As two right handed CFers that aren't all that great seems like a waste when there's options remaining.

Norris and Boyd have both looked good in spring. Zimmermann, not so much. As stated before, I don't really pay attention to ST pitching until the last couple weeks before they head north. Hopefully Zimmermann starts showing some command in his next couple appearances.

I agree with splitting up the LHPs ... (1) Verlander, (2) Zimmermann, (3) Norris, (4) Fulmer, (5) Boyd. Works for me.
