Last couple days I keep hearing Boyd may be the sixth starter with Sanchez having the final
Spot in the rotation once it's needed.

Could be a nice help to the bullpen if Sanchez can return to somewhat trustworthy status. Hear he's went with a different arm slot and folks are happy with the initial results. We'll see...

8 scoreless innings for Anibal since he's gone to the revised arm slot. By his own admission, he has to get more comfortable and consistent with throwing the ball that way, but so far so good.

A return to somewhere near decent would be huge!

LAKELAND, Fla. -- Veteran reliever Mark Lowe was released Sunday, one of nine cuts made by the Detroit Tigers as Opening Day approaches. The Tigers also reassigned pitchers Joe Jimenez, Arcenio Leon, Ruben Alaniz, Logan Kensing and Edward Mujica; ...
Tigers cut 9, including reliever Mark Lowe
10 down, 10 to go.

Avila sure did screw the pooch with his pitching additions last offseason. I assume he'll be cutting Pelfrey soon.

Pelfrey's velocity has at been good, at least. Lowe was barely cracking 90, and as a result was trying to work on a changeup. He threw 95-96 in 2015, after which the Tigers offered him the $11 mill contract. Worth eating the $5.5 mill.

Article also says Anthony Gose was reassigned and that JD Martinez will start the season on the DL. Guess that means Tyler Collins (who just started playing spring games again) and Mikie Mahtook in center. Moya and Pressley battling for RF. Maybe JaCoby Jones in the mix.

I'm not sure which was a worse move.

Gose reportedly can throw 97 mph left handed. He is still a little bitch imo.

Jones at least has an upside....

Jones and Moya both have poor plate discipline, but Jones has great speed and has GOT to be better in the OF defensively than Moya.

Lowe was coming off a very good 2015. The Pelfrey signing made zero sense, especially as early in the hot stove season as Avila signed him.

Part of it was very good. His ERA was nearly 4 with Toronto after he was traded.(in 2013 and 2014 combine he didn't even go 20 innings.)

I'll give Big Al credit, it was only half as bad as 40 year old Joe Nathan's contract.

I saw an interview on the weekend and Al Kaline said Jacoby Jones was the best defensive outfielder on the team. Said he had great instincts got a good jump on the ball and had speed.

But can he hit at a Major League Level and not strike out 200 times .... I hope so. The kid has a nice upside!!

With JD on the DL and Moya waived, it sure looks like it. Perhaps Collins would be in there on opening day if they face an RHP.

They need to take Brett Gardners contract off the Yankees hands.
