one kid I did want last year was Devil Rays RP Jake McGee. Boxberger would have been a good fit too. I think Smitty said he was under control for a few years. Smitty wasn't on board with my McGee love all that much either.
Tigers have been rumored to be sniffing around Boxberger.. but I would bet the Rays hold on to him until the trade deadline at least... they have no reason to trade him.. he makes pocket change.

I'd be happy if they traded Pelfry for him. Hahahaha.

Where was he in total base runners? Lol

Don't understand why Big Al went after garbage the first week of December.
Yeah.. I am not sure why they didn't wait either.. I don't think the signing is horrible.. or great.. but he could have gotten him after seeing what his other options are.

Got to wait and see what the Dodgers gave up.. but if its what people are saying... They gave up 2 top 100 prospects.. One pitcher, one hitter. Tigers couldn't compete with that package.

doesn't mean they pan out. Baseball is so up down in rankings that kids can drop quickly, imo.

True.. but I am sorry.. If the Dodgers offered up Grant Holmes... He is 20 times the talent of Buck Farmer or some other fringe starter the Tigers could offer... Only way they could compete is if they were putting Norris or Fulmer out there.

I am not impressed by the Pelfrey signing.. but I don't think it was that horrible either. I am a little disgusted with the Lowe signing when he got nearly what Tony Sipp was looking for and Sipp is much more proven and is a lefty.

Mike Lowe just signed for 2 yrs and 13 mil... that is disgusting.... Tigers WAAAAY overpaid.... Jesus Christ these contracts are getting out of hand. Seriously. 6.5 mil for this guy? I was good with 4 mil... but 6.5 mil? Tony Sipp wanted 3yrs 15 mil... we get this guy for 13 mil and 2 yrs? Seriously? That is damn near closer money. Market for pitching is just bananas this year.

That is definitely a bad contract for a setup guy who's really only had one outstanding season in 10 years. 1.96 ERA, 1.05 WHIP and 61 K in 55 innings last year with only 12 walks (2.0/9). But his career ERA is 3.80, and his career walk rate is 3.8/9. Projections I saw a couple days ago had him getting $3.5 to $4 million for a one-year deal. Tigers give him $13 mill for 2 years. Unless he's a seriously late bloomer, that's just nuts.

Keep in mind that the Tigers holding on to all the young pitchers isn't a bad thing if they can find a place for them... They can always use them for in season trades... They will have plenty of ammo to make trades as needed unlike last year.

That's where I'm at on this. If it'd been right before ST opens, so be it. But right now with dozens of options floating around, it's a head scratcher.

But Atleast he has expierience. Better than relying on a Toledo kid to start 30 games or three of them to have ten good starts.

$6.5mil a year for Lowe. Totally ridiculous. I realize that the Tigers has to pay a little extra to get a player to come to Detroit....but this is getting out of hand. I honestly figured Lowe might get 6-7 million for two years total. This guy is one year removed from opening a season on a minor league contract! Get this....Lowe is going to make more in 2016 than he has made in all of his seasons in MLB put together. Just because he pitched well for the first half of the 2015 season for Seattle!!!! Unreal!

The Pelfrey signing is normally the kind you would see in February.. after expending all options.. I agree on this.

It doesn't have anything to do with paying to get them to come to detroit iffy. Look at the other deals out there... Every signing has been for crazy money. Did Arizona have to pay extra to get Greinke to move to Phoenix?

I'll be honest.

No idea who the fuck this guy is.

Any relation to Derek? The hometown kid?

No risk really... If Holaday beats him out.. great.. one of the two will be traded most likely.

Not having a Top Closer, like Chapman, has been the Achilles heel for years, I woulda traded either of them and a couple others that they might have been interested in. and Rondon would have been a throw in freebie to boot.

I do not and won't understand why there wasn't a sniff.

Mike Lowe was a middle of the road reliever for the Rangers... then had a great season for the Mariners last year.. was traded to Toronto.. His career numbers are ok.. but not 6.5 mil a yr ok.

You don't send a guy like Norris or Fulmer out for 1 year of a closer when your farm system is like the Tigers... Dodgers have the luxury of having about 5 more guys that are in the minors that are stud pitchers even better than Holmes.
