Thought we could start a new one as our Tigs go for FIVE straight division titles and that elusive World Champion title.

Heard yesterday that Avila would actually welcome losing time to McCann this year. Knows he can't keep playing as much as he does if he wants to play for a number of years.

Lil' Al has seriously grown on me over the years. He's one tough sucker. Right with you on him sitting against lefties.

Seen tigers avoid arbitration with price and sign him for 19.75 million this yr. we need to get a long term contract signed if were not getting max. I like price better than any of our pitchers last yr. hes a lefty who goes deep into games. Just what we needed.

Maybe when smyly becomes a FA he will come back home.

Hes a magnet for foul tips. Guy needs body armor.

This is Al's last season in Detroit IMO. He is spending longer times out after each concussion and they seem to be happening more frequently. It's to the point if anything hits that mask he is missing a week.

Detroit spent a lot of draft picks on catchers the last few years so it would be nice to see a few progress to be MLB players. McCann makes contact and if he hits over .250 I really don't care about his lack of HR power. Just get on base and keep innings alive.

Considering Price got 19.75 million I am thinking the Tigers are going to let him walk as well and sign a guy like Shields to a long term deal to save cash.

I like Price but a 150-180 million dollar long term deal will be tough to stomach for Detroit if they can't do it for Max.

Lil'Al sure is a tough nut.....smart one too if he realizes less playing time is good for him.....McCann against lefties and split duty against righties, little DH and 1st could lead to a good situation for the Tigers...

Id started to assume Max would be back. And hoped so after the garbage DD has brought in to replace him and Rickey with. But 7 years? Noooo thanks. 37 year old Scherzer won't be a good thing in your rotation.

tigers with last seasons addition of Price have 165 mil committed to 14 players. If the rest make around 1.5 mil a year that puts this years payroll at around 185 without Max. So giving Max his $$ puts the Tigers in the luxury tax, which is what happened in i believe 2008 after which DD which led to the Granderson/Jackson trade for max and others . Mike I does not do the luxury tax.

No way was Detroit going over the luxury tax.

The Nationals gave a bad contract to Max. 7 years and 210 of which they will be paying him 14-15 million a year for 14 years! That's the same stupid shit the Mets did with Saberhagen and Bonilla. It will effect their ability down the road to be competitive IMO.

7 years for a 30 year old power pitcher is just insane! I can't see Max as a viable #1 for more than 3-4 years and he will always be a bullpen drain by only going 6 innings per start. And if the Nats trade Zimmerman I think they compound their mistake.

No way no how should Detroit even have thought about 7 years and anything over 160. Good for Max but I hate to think what Price will ask for.

Tigers need to extend price now. He is a much better pitcher than anyone the tigers have or had last season. His contract next offseason will be massive. I would much rather see him get the big contract that max rejected, hes better and pitches deeper into games. Max will be missed, but max is nowhere near the pitcher price is...and the next five years will show that. If they can get shields for a decent four or five year contract IM all for it. If it means price wont be extended, hell no.
