I can see Avila has a plan he is working on... At this point I am going to sit back and watch patiently to see where he goes with it. I have a feeling he is far from done.

Tigers have guys like Farmer, Greene, Ryan, Lobstein, Boyd that will be the first ones up when a fill in for the rotation is needed...

and that's not a compliment or a positive when you just might have to be counting on any one of those. Lobstein and Boyd might be my first go to guy. idk about Farmer Greene and Ryan who all should be in the pen as far as I'm concerned.

but I'm not one of you savvy guys

When you are talking about guys that will most likely be in AAA and only see time in the rotation if there is an injury... Greene, Lobstein, and Boyd could be worse options. They are on par with most teams #5 really. I am going to wait to judge Boyd.. he started last year in AA. He can easily have the game slow down for him this year and improve. I agree that Ryan and Farmer are probably better served coming out of the pen. Ryan was great out of the pen in 2014.

He would be a great fit.. but investing another 75 mil or so into a starter isn't happening for a guy that would be at best a middle of the order guy. Spending big for #4 or #5 starters doesn't leave much money for other things.

counting on Sanchez to be a reliable 30 Game SP is more risk. I saw where JA Happ got stupid money the other day and I wouldn't view dropping 15M on Chen as a bad investment. If Sanchez comes up with arm trouble again this team is screwed. I'd sign Chen in a heartbeat before that ugly shoulder issue of Sanchez rears it's head AGAIN.

I would love to see the Tigers rebuild the AAA Toledo Mudhens with guys they actually can use at some point in the next year or two instead of fielding a team of has beens and shit bags like they have. Last years rotation in Toledo was shameful. Their bullpen roster spots were taken up by guys that were never going to make the Tigers roster.

Chen is getting more than 15 mil.

agree here but you got to give Avila a couple years to get the entire minor league system where he wants it to be.

Chen is 30 years old and has no reason to except a contract of less than 4 years...

Tigers are rumored to be looking into Iwakuma... He would be a better bet to sign a 3 yr deal at 15 mil per year.

He is asking for 5 yrs 85 mil right now.

17M per yr is right where Anibal is and he's an injury waiting to happen to be out for more than a month. The Happ signing did escalate the $$$ for back end SP.

Tigers have talent in the lower levels of the minors. Nothing that is going to be a super star... but they have talent there. The problem is the depth and talent in the AA and AAA levels. AA should get a boost from the younger guys that just won the low A championship.... But there wasn't much in AA to help out AAA much this year outside of Fulmer, Montreal Robertson, Paul Voelker, and Josh Turley, Wynton Bernard, and Ficociello. Flavor of the month Jacoby Jones is going to be sitting out 50 games for recreational drug use.

Happ is 34.. Chen is 30. Chen is going to get paid much more than Happ.

I could see this going down.

? age ?
Iwakuma is on the older side.. I think he is like 35... but he doesn't rely on a high fastball... he is a pitcher that will age well.

I saw that and posted it here back a month or so ago. too many trips to Bolivia or Columbia, maybe ? without the actual travel. idk what it was for but it sure seemed odd not to say what it truly was regarding

I think that is part of the MLBPA rules for teams regarding this. I don't think they are supposed to disclose what it was.

kind of where I was guessing. Chen at 30 with a WHIP near 1.20, younger, less IP seems to be a better gamble for 2M more per year than Iwakuma, imo solely. There were rumors of trying to trade for Iwakuma back before DD got the boot, so there's that. maybe it was Avila's thought process all along, idk.

Jacoby Jones sucks by the way. He is never going to do shit in the MLB. His ability to see pitches makes Moya look like Miggy.
