And this is 2014, no one gets complete games anymore except roy halladay. Although IM not sure what happened to him, maybe he came in one too many times after 110 pitches thru eight. If managers were afraid to buck conventionalism I bet we would see many more halladays. Its just how baseball has evolved. Teams pay starters millions and millions of dollars and more often than not they pitch six to seven innings.
Roy retired at 36 years of age though. I think the move to the bullpen is more of a sign of believing in the guys you have out there. It's not like Ausmus brought in Coke or Putkonen. Nathan just didn't seal the deal. And Gonzalez just left it up to Kinsler to get this thing over with in the 10th.
