There's no way you need to send a guy out for another inning when he's at 110 pitches in his first outing. I don't want to read that crap. Get real.
Agreed. Not in 45 degree weather and certainly not in April.

And certainly not with a guy you are paying $10MM a year for exactly this situation

You aren't treating pitchers as "pussies" when it's April 2 and they've thrown 110 pitches after probably never topping 70 in spring training. If it's June, I agree with you, laker.

In june the same thing would happen, there are rarely complete games in baseball now, and I have and always will see way too many games lost due to yanking an elite pitcher who pitches every five days for a "specialist". I realize this isnt the platform to complain about how incrediby stupid yanking these guys is, but just wanted to vent. I cant blame ausmus, its conventional "wisdom" to manage this way..but Im ok with someone unorthodox if its strategic. I will always support the idea of putting your best players on the field. The difference between 110 and 120 pitches is negligible. If scherzer comes out in the ninth and struggles, pull him. I hate the idea of not giving the guy the chance. Theres no reason not to. By you guys logic what makes 110 the cutoff? Why not 100? Why not 88? Why not after 7 innings or 8 and one third? Because they were going to the ninth and they had nathan, pitch count was a factor...but it wasnt the most important factor.

He threw a 79 mph change up in the 8th. Ausmus came out to see if he had enough
left to face one more batter. He did. But he clearly was working harder in the
8th. It was his longest inning by quite a bit. If this were June 2nd I might
feel differently.

Exactly. None of us knows what Scherzer may have said to Ausmus after the 8th. Though I don't think Brad would have sent him back out regardless.

Plus, and I don't want to come across as a hater, this is Scherzer. The proud owner of ZERO career CG's. Im not sure if he's came out to start the ninth more than two times in his entire career.

Lot of other things to pick on than Ausmus' decision. Cabrera can't get a ball to the outfield with a man on 3rd, <2 outs. Avila can't throw out base-stealers for shit.

Let's hope the Tigs score here and make it all moot.

Yeah...and his change ups were just fine. Like I told howie, june would yield the same results. I just dont care for that mindset. Anyhow I have stated how I feel, as have you guys. i respect what you have to say and disagree and always will. No one is going to change the others mind, but my thoughts on the matter are definitely not crap even if you disagree. This game would be over and scherzer would be fine to pitch in five days. Moving on.

Its possible, I take that into consideration as max is pretty honest about that.

Nathan is an elite closer. His job is to pitch in exactly those type of situations. He didn't have it today. Move on.

This Royal team is damn fast.

And this is 2014, no one gets complete games anymore except roy halladay. Although IM not sure what happened to him, maybe he came in one too many times after 110 pitches thru eight. If managers were afraid to buck conventionalism I bet we would see many more halladays. Its just how baseball has evolved. Teams pay starters millions and millions of dollars and more often than not they pitch six to seven innings.

I do miss Jack Morris and his 175 career complete games.

Scherzer is an elite starter, he DID have it today. In any other situation in any other spot the choice would be the sure thing over the question mark. Someone coming out of the pen is always a question mark compared to someone that has been the sure thing. But its hard to believe you habe credibility on the subject when you have been tryimg to convince people how dominant the detroit pen is. Move on bro.
